Comic Book Review - Full Tilt Boogie

Image
Rob reviews Full Tilt Boogie... After a successful single introductory episode within 2000 AD Regened Prog 2130 . Alex de Campi and Eduardo Ocana then   jumped to the standard Progs with a full series of the amazing, Full Tilt Boogie .  The story (synopsis down below) is fairly simple, but as the series progresses it becomes so much more than just an Intergalactic war.  “Tee, along with her grandmother and cat, is a wannabe bounty hunter, odd-jobbing across the galaxy in her ship the Full Tilt Boogie, constantly on the lookout for the bigger, better payday. Some days, though, it’s less bounty-hunting and more babysitting, especially when they rescue the narcissistic Prince Ifan from Debtor’s Prison.  Accidentally sparking an intergalactic war, suddenly Tee finds herself chased across the universe by sacred knights and unstoppable undead warriors. Planet conquering, prince rescuing, and ramen eating – it’s all in a day’s work for the crew of the Full Tilt...

Rob Reviews 2000 AD Prog 2228... It's Wednesday yet again and here we are with Prog 2228 and what a Prog this one is - just look at Leo Manco's incredible cover!  We bid farewell to Sláine this week as Pat Mills ' last ever Sláine story - ' Dragontamer ' comes to its much-delayed end.  Regardless of your thoughts about both Sláine and Mills , saying goodbye to a long-running character is always a tough choice. Anyway does Sláine get the send-off into a (possible) eternal slumber that he deserves? Well, you'll have to read on to find out... Sláine isn't the only goodbye this week, as ' Chorus & The Rin g' also bid farewell too. But for everything else it's business as normal Dredd tangles with the SJS in ' A Penitent Man ', Seema starts to piece things together in ' Thistlebone ', and there are more shenanigans in ' Feral & Foe II '. Judge Dredd: A Penitent Man - Part 4 Things are never what they seem i...

Comic Book Review - Mighty Morphin #6

Image
Rob reviews Mighty Morphin #6... Ryan Parrott is on to something incredible with Mighty Morphin . I know I say it a lot (every review) but each issue just gets better and better. Still reeling from the revelation that Matt Cook is the new Green Ranger, the Rangers are still having to contend with Lord Zedd and the impenetrable dome that surrounds Angel Grove.  So, in typical Mighty Morphin fashion, #6 kicks off with another trip into Zordon's past. We see a great bit of character building as Zordon and Zartus talk about the elephant in the room - Zordon's promotion to Chief Guardian. Naturally, Zartus is a bit peeved that Zophram chose Zordon over himself, but promises that he is loyal to the new Chief Guardian - and even admits that Zordon might be the better fighter. Back in the present and it's been 23-days since Lord Zedd surrounded Angel Grove with the Dome. Matt is still trapped inside, and the Rangers are still trapped outside. Now, this is where Ryan P...

Comic Book Review - 2000 AD Prog 2227

Image
Rob Reviews 2000 AD Prog 2227... Phew! What a week. Since our last outing with Prog 2226, the UK is in a national state of mourning, lockdown-3 "electric boogaloo" has ended (sort-of), pubs are open, aaannnddd the weather control is going haywire.  One constant however is the weekly 2000 AD Progs. And this week in Prog 2227 it's more the same... Dredd continues to investigate Asher in 'A Penitent Man', more strange goings on in Thistlebone , Ava Eastwood falls in Visions of Deadworld , body-swap nightmares in Feral & Foe, and finally part 2 of 'Chorus and the Ring'. Judge Dredd: A Penitent Man - Part 3 Dredd and the SJS have quite the history and in 'A Penitent Man' the next chapter of that history is being written. So, former Judge and Titan inmate, Asher has revealed that the SJS have an operation in place to discourage any former Titan inmates from returning to Mega-City 1.  This then sets Dredd on a collision course with SJS Jud...

Comic Book Review - Star Wars: The High Republic #4

Image
Rob reviews Star Wars: The High Republic #4... I'm thoroughly enjoying The High Republic . Its storytelling doesn't have to rely on any previous lore, and to an extent writer, Cavan Scott is crafting his masterpiece away from the mainstream Star Wars series.  Set way before the dark days of the Republic that lead to the rise of the Galactic Empire. The High Republic focuses on both the Republic and its Jedi Knights who are both at the height of their power. It's not all glamorous as the Jedi are dealing with various foes such as the pirate-like Nihil and the sentient plant - The Drengir. Issue #3 of The High Republic saw the Jedi investigating Sedri Minor after the events onboard the Hutt starship that had been attacked by the Nihil back in issue #2. The Jedi's search then turns into a rescue mission as the inhabitants of the planet inform them of various missing people - including the Jedi Knight, Ceret. The Series protagonist, Jedi Knight Ke...

Comic Book Review - Nocterra #2

Image
Rob Reviews Nocterra #2... The first issue of Nocterra was a fantastic read from cover to cover. Set within a post-apocalyptic world that's been shrouded in darkness where people seemingly turn into hideous monsters, Nocterra plays on the human fear of darkness and what goes bump in the night.  Nocterra #2 continues these themes, whilst introducing the series' mysterious bad guy.  Last time, we met Val, badass trucker who's taken on the 'monster of all jobs'. In order to save her brother - who's infected with the monster-turning virus. Val agrees to transport two people who claim that they can not only bring the Sun back to humanity, but also provide a way to cure her brother. Naturally this draws the attention of some bad guys, which is what writer, Snyder focuses on now.  As far as the big bad goes his identity is still quite literally shrouded in darkness. What we do get to see is his motives and methods to get what he wants - Val...
