Comic Book Review - Predator Vs. Wolverine #1

The Hunter becomes the hunted as the Predator faces off against Wolverine!  Ever since it was announced that Marvel were releasing a range of comics based off of the Alien and Predator franchises - my mind delved into so many possibilities. From the teaser image of a lone Predator standing on top of Avengers Tower with a shattered Iron-Man helmet, I was expecting plenty of bloody shenanigans featuring Marvel’s bread and butter.  However, since then the two monster heavyweights have stayed well within their own universes. So far Alien has seen four respectful arcs courtesy of Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Declan Shelvey, and Predator has two arcs from Ed Bisson. Now it’s over to Benjamin Percy to stir that melting pot as he pits the galaxy’s most feared hunter against Marvel’s most formidable Mutant - Wolverine.  Taking place across three different time periods, Predator Vs. Wolverine sets up its history quite well. Kicking things off and the bulk of the story takes place back in the 1900

Comic Book Review - Something Is Killing The Children #33

Trials and tribulations as I return to SIKTC… It’s been quite a while since I last sat down to review James Tynion IV’s groundbreaking Something Is Killing The Children. While I’ve not put my thoughts down in a review, I have been keeping up with Erica’s latest work in the (not so) sleepy backwater town of Tribulation. So, with SIKTC # 33 now in the wilds, I’ve decided to jump back into the thick of it.  Calling this latest issue “the thick of it” is quite an overstatement. Don’t get me wrong, while there are small gains made to pushing the story forward, it’s incredibly frustrating. Moving on from issue #32 the cast are still in the somewhat down-time area of their troubles. The Duplicitype still out there, and with the arrival of the newcomers you’d think there’d be a lot going on. Instead we get an issue that focuses on the inevitable battle between Erica and Cutter.  Over the course of the 30-something pages, there’s very little to get excited about. Where the series has had its “f

In Memorandum: Former Chief Judge Barbara Hershey

Death has finally caught up to Barbara Hershey, and Mega-City One will never be the same… The final chapter of Hershey by Rob Williams, Simon Fraser and Simon Bowland hit the pages of 2000 AD Prog 2349 this Wednesday, and brought with it quite a significant change to the ‘Dreddverse’.  Barbara Hershey is no more!  Created by John Wagner and Brian Bolland in 1980, Hershey has been a mainstay of Judge Dredd's world ever since – a street Judge who attained the city's highest position, a friend and foe to Dredd, and someone whose lifetime of service is ending with a tale of revenge and retribution. Having previously faked her death, Hershey was seriously ill from an incurable virus as she attempted to deal with an alien outbreak that could destroy her beloved city. Her past and uncertain future fused together in the third and final book of Rob Williams, Simon Fraser and Simon Bowland’s ‘Hershey’, as seen in the concluding chapter of their run in Prog 2349. Only a few people knew th

[Sponsored Review] Building A Legend: SDW Heroes Long Zun Liu Bei Unicorn Gundam

Gundam, a 1979 media franchise that features giant robots duking it out with each other has been a favourite of mine for a number of years. While I’ve lost touch with the newer adventures, the heroics of Amuro Ray, Kamille Biden, and Judau Ashta in their battle again Zion where the bulk of my 90s childhood.  While the long-running franchise has spawned a whole bunch of merchandise, nothing is as popular as building your own Mobile Suit. And thanks to the generous folks over at Heroes - Comic, Gaming, & Collectibles  - I’ve been sent a wide selection of SD Sangoku Soketsuden, and SDW Heroes Gundam to build and review.  Romance of the Three Gundam Created to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Gundam, SD Gundam World Sangoku Soketsuden plays homage to the Luo Guanzong novel “Romance of the Three Kingdoms”. While the 14th century historical novel focuses on feudal lords and their retainers in the last days of the Han Dynasty, SD Gundam World Sangoku Soketsuden gives everything a sci-fi

Comic Book Review - 2000 AD Prog 2348

Mega-City Crackdown… It’s that time of the week again where I delve into the latest offering of 2000 AD. It’s a bit of a cracker this week as the latest (and possibly last) outings for Former Chief Judge Barbara Hershey and Former Judge (and Ex-Titan Inmate) Kyle Asher come to their penultimate episodes - all under a brilliant Jake Lynch cover!  Joining A Fallen Man and The   Cold in the Bones this week is the usual band of suspects of Azimuth  and the  3Riller, Die Horde. Completing the famous five is the one-off Future Shock Fear and Loathing of Las Vegas.  So with five tales to delve into, shall we?  Judge Dredd: A Fallen Man - Part 7 (Ken Niemand, Tom Foster, Chris Blyth, Annie Parkhouse)  We’re heading towards the end game for Kyle Asher as this episode marks the penultimate part in the Asher trilogy. Across the whole series we’ve seen Former Judge Kyle Asher overcome the obstacles brought on by his return to Mega-City One. Ken Niemand has also moved into vigilante territory as As

Laying the foundations for the still beloved series, the first generation, THE TRANSFORMERS (or G1 for short), have been given a BISHOUJO-style makeover by Shunya Yamashita.Starscream, the Air Commander of the Decepticons, makes a long-awaited arrival to the series!Underneath an ambitious, cunning smirk, Starscream’s false loyalty is represented by a precisely done necktie. Ciri Joins Kotobukiya’s Bishoujo Range

Ciri leaps straight from CD Projekt Red’s hit fantasy RPG The Witcher 3, to become Kotobukiya’s latest model in their Bishoujo collection.  Based from a design by Shunya Yamashita, the highly detailed figurine is currently available to preorder now for the price of $170 (roughly £135).  ‘ Known to be a descendant of the ancient elves, Ciri stands elegant and dignified. The statue is based on an illustration by Shunya Yamashita that depicts both the grace and strength of this powerful witcher. As with Geralt, the incredible details of the statue were sculpted by Yoshiki Fujimoto. One of the most noteworthy parts of the statue is the use of different sculpting and painting techniques, such as the wrinkles in the shirt creating a light material, and the heavy, leather-like textures, each adding realism to the statue as a whole.’
