Kickstarter Preview - Sentinel #14: Heartbreak Spotel

Previewing Sentinel #14: Heartbreak Spotel… Alan Holloway is back with another issue of Sentinel - the Starblazer inspired mini-digest that offers a complete story in 64-pages. And we’ve got a preview of what to expect below!  For issue #14 ‘Heartbreak Spotel’ Holloway is joined by artist Paul Spence, who’s no stranger to the Sentinel format (‘A Fare To Remember’). Fans of Starblazer are also on for a special treat as veteran artist Keith Robinson is providing the variant cover! ‘HEARTBREAK SPOTEL' is quite obviously inspired by the classic UK sitcom from the 1970s, 'Fawlty Towers'. We don't try to hide it. Naturally, it's all our own work and doesn't rip it off, but it was fun to do a comedic issue with a few names and themes that reflect such an iconic show. If you've never seen it, it doesn't matter, but fans will enjoy spotting the references.’ Sentinel #14: Heartbreak Spotel is currently crowdfunding via Kickstarter, with the campaign being availab

Video Game Review - Sephonie

Rob reviews Sephonie on Nintendo Switch… Anodyne and it’s sequel - Anodyne 2 - are two indie titles that punch well above their budget. Developed by a team of just two people, the action-adventure titles received great acclaim from their respective players. Now Analgestic Productions are back with an even more ambitious title; Sephonie.  Merging a rich narrative with puzzle-platforming mechanics, Sephonie throws you into the adventures of three scientists who find themselves shipwrecked on the titular island. Planning to visit the island to study and analyse its biodiversity, the trio originally intended this study to build a better relationship with the flora and fauna that resides on Sephonie. Parts of the narrative do get a little philosophical as themes such as social understandings, shared consciousness, and human emotions come into play. Naturally things aren’t quite this simple as the island has its own consciousness which started to sow its own seeds within the minds of the sci

Novel Review - The Perfect Girlfriend

Everyone has secrets but some aren’t as big as Lauren and Jay’s… The Perfect Girlfriend is the debut psychological thriller from Hayley Smith  who takes us on a rollercoaster ride of secrets from two people who meet at a music festival. Could this be a sleeper hit of the Summer? Come with me as I find out. Smith focuses her narrative on the relationship of two characters; Lauren and Jay. We first meet the duo as they both separately attend a music festival, to then cross paths as their motivations and lives entwine. As their relationship develops  Lauren moves into Jay's dilapidated house which also happens to be in the middle of nowhere. With Jay often out performing errands, and Lauren far from home, and cut off from the wider world due to a poor phone reception, she spends most of her time and energy in bringing a bit of colour to her new home.  As the narrative develops we get great insight into the minds of these two characters. We learn that Jay is quite protective of Lauren

Re:Read Episode #3 - V For Vendetta

V For Vendetta, a comic that inspired a hacker group, and became a manual to injustice and rebellion… For those of you who are not familiar,  V For Vendetta  is a 1980s comic book that was brought to life by  Alan Moore  and  David Lloyd.  Across the 10-part series,  Moore  tells the story of V; an enigmatic and mysterious antagonist, who’s sole purpose was to bring down the totalitarian government that’s currently governing the stories version of Britain. While the story can be seen as a simple story of good vs evil, it’s so much more. Just under the surface and you have a story that’s full of social injustice, elitism, freedom, the rights of people to simply live their lives, and so much more. It’s also a story who’s themes are becoming ever more realised as we head into our own future. With media bias, and government propaganda dictating how we live our lives, we’re closer now to Alan Moore’s dystopia than we were back when the enigmatic V made his first appearance in 1982.  V for V
