Comic Book Review - X Deaths Of Wolverine #3

Rob reviews X Deaths Of Wolverine #3... The X Deaths/X Lives Of Wolverine has been a pretty gripping tale so far. Its duel narrative has been a rip-roaring ride through Wolverine's past and Krakoa's future. Whilst Logan continues to grapple with Omega Red in the past, the X Family are dealing with their own "Cyber" Wolverine in the present. But is he from the future?  This week sees the Wolverine family called up to tackle whatever it is that's imitating dear old Dad. As this form of Wolverine tears and claws his way through everyone that stands in his way, Xavier calls upon the extended Wolverine family to help. Having Gabby, Laura, and Draken on the side gives everything a deeper meaning. Not only do we see them deal with something that's imitating their Wolverine, but the trio is arguably Xavier's best shot at stopping the threat.  Of course, things aren't even simple and it soon turns out that this Wolverine is in fact from

Creator Interview: Gregory M. Guity on Alleycat 2.0

Rob speaks to Gregory M.  Guity about Alleycat 2.0 and creating comics... A couple of weeks back I sent a tweet out asking if any comic creators would like to answer some questions about their work. Whilst I didn't expect anyone to reply, the response was phenomenal. One such creator who got in touch was  Gregory M. Guity who wanted to wax lyrical about his comic creation - Alleycat 2.0 Alleycat 2.0 is Guity 's experiment at writing a comic. It's a comic filled with a dark and gritty story that drops you straight into the heart of the action. Featuring a cast of anthropomorphic animals, Alleycat 2.0 follows the titular Alleycat 2.0 as he battles his nemesis the crime lord - Cerebrus. While other comics give you a long-winded origin story or a mass deluge of exposition to read.  Alleycat 2.0  gives you the here and now with bite-sized chunks of what you need to know.  I recently sent Gregory  some questions about Alleycat 2.0 and its creation, and t

Comic Book Review - Carnage Forever #1

Rob reviews Carnage Forever #1... Marvel heads into Carnage territory this week as the publisher celebrates the Symbiotes 30th anniversary. Kicking the festivities off is Carnage Forever, an anthology of three strips that are brought to life by Philip Kennedy Johnson, Ram V , and Ty Templeton. As comics go, this one doesn't shy away from the horror as we see the Carnage Symbiote in all of its brutal glory!  With the Symbiotes, Marvel often plays it safe. Whilst we have seen some horror aspects to the alien race, 9/10 times it's portrayed in a more action-oriented sense. Carnage Forever takes this formula and dials the horror up to a near extreme level. What this anthology gives us is Venom's murderous offspring at its very worst. The Carnage we see here is portrayed as the monstrous serial killer that is. What makes this one more appealing is that long-time host, Cletus Kasady is long gone and the Symbiote is now operating on its own devices. First up in this a

Video Game Review - Dyna Bomb

Rob reviews Dyna Bomb on Nintendo Switch... Dyna Bomb  is a strange hybrid between Bomberman and Super Mario . You'll utilise a jetpack to fly around the bite-sized levels whilst chucking bombs at everything that gets in your way. While Dyna Bomb offers some simplistic, arcade-style gameplay, it lacks any substance... To begin with,  Dyna Bomb is a straight-up port of a 6-year old Android game. To this extent, its mobile gaming heritage is pretty clear to see. Menus are unnecessarily difficult to navigate, and the game lacks any storyline - and even a multiplayer option. The idea surrounding the core gameplay is pretty simple. You navigate around levels to look for a key that will open up the exit gate. Stages are also filled with multiple switches that will need to be pressed as well as enemies to defeat and plenty of shiny gems to collect. What makes the game challenging is that it operates a one-hit-kill mechanic, which sees you having to restart the level if you h

Video Game Review - Moto Roader MC

Rob reviews Moto Roader MC on Nintendo Switch... Originally released on the TurboGrafx-CD back in 1992, Moto Roader MC never made its way to Western markets. Thankfully this is about to change as Ratalaika Games has carried the game over to the Nintendo Switch. And what better time too, as Moto Roader MC is also commemorating its 30th anniversary!  Moto Roader MC is an arcade racer that's played via a top-down perspective. Throughout the game, players will race against the AI across numerous circuits while utilising various projectiles to their advantage. It's a madcap racer that's certainly a trip into gaming's past but is it worth playing in 2022?  To be fair, Moto Roader MC still has a lot going for it. Its presentation still holds up to modern standards and the single-player experience - whilst lacking substance - is relatively entertaining. The real value here is during multiplayer races. Supporting up to four players, Moto Roader MC is a w

Comic Book Review - Venom #5

Rob reviews Venom #5... After observing Dylan, Sleeper, and Venom for the last few issues, Venom #5 switches viewpoint as we catch up with Eddie Brock and the mysterious Meridius. Having just "died", Eddie finds himself in the 'Garden of Time' with more than a few questions that need answers. Venom #5 also sees the return of Al Ewing as the seasoned writer takes over from Ram V .  So, we're finally getting some answers to the questions that have beset Venom since its first issue. Not only do we finally see who that other Eddie Brock is/was, but we also learn "slightly" more about the enigmatic Meridius, and how he's connected to both the Brocks and the Symbiotes.  In terms of personalities, Meridius is still as vague as he was when first introduced. Al Ewing does his best to give us some answers, he asks more questions as a result. Throughout this issue, Meridius is portrayed as Venom's latest "big bad". He's able to

Comic Book Review - Power Rangers #16

Rob reviews Power Rangers #16... Power Rangers #16  marks the end of an era. Not only do we see the conclusion to the Eltarian War, and the narrative journey that started way back in Mighty Morphin #1 . We also say goodbye to Ryan as he bows out of writing both series' and hands over the Mighty Morphin reigns to Mat Groom .  However, Ryan Parrott isn't going to far as he and Marco Renna  journey into space with the Omega Rangers! But that's next month.
