Comic Book Review - Dick Tracy #1

A new era for the iconic detective… Mad Cave Studios along with writers Alex Segura and Michael Moreci , as well as artist Geraldo Borges herald a new era for the classic detective. Set in the twilight years of World War II, “The City” finds itself in 1947. With the threat of global conflict now simmering in the shadows, The City falls back into the Hell of its creation. As corruption eats away at its core, up-and-coming Detective Dick Tracy is called to investigate a murder that will bring him into conflict with the rot that plagues his city.  It’s hard to talk more about the overall story of this issue without going into some pretty major spoilers. What I will say is that Segura and Moreci have crafted something that blends the character's rich history with that of a modern detective noir. It’s brutal and hard-boiled in its approach but is oh-so better for it. Of course, there are a few characters who appear from the detective's past and rather than being included purely

The thrilling countdown has begun as Steve MacManus returns with Blazer! Issue #4… It’s been a couple of years since I last delved into the world of Blazer! with my last review being the publication's debut issue back in 2021. Since that opening issue the tie-in to creator Steve MacManus 's novel ‘ The Sheerglam Conspiracy ’ has grown into its own entity courtesy of those fine folks over at The77 Publications. While Mac is now joined by a range of creators, the storytelling remains the same, and if you read between the lines, there are plenty of easter eggs to the goings on of in-universe publisher, Goodenough Publications.  Diving into the issue and were first greeted by an editorial by Steve Mac as he pokes fun at The77 Publications EiC Ben Cullis for finding the funds to afford 4 extra pages and a big congratulations to Tornado Ted for winning his boxing match in Las Vegas. The rest of this intro is then made up of those time-honoured spots that you’d see in comics from

Video Game Review - Skull & Bones

It’s a pirates life as Rob reviews Skull & Bones on Xbox Series X…(originally published on Rapid Reviews UK) As some of you know, aside from flying solo here at Geek Culture Reviews I also write for uk video game and tech website, Rapid Reviews UK (click here to check them out!). It’s been a while since I’ve reviewed a game for RRUK and to mark the return to my long absence I was given the opportunity to review Skull & Bones from Ubisoft. For those of you who follow me here at Geek Culture Reviews, I thought I’d publish the review here so you can read it too (although do seriously check out my friends over at RRUK!)  Under the hood and Skull & Bones is quite an interesting game. Initially developed as an expansion to Assassins Creed: Black Flag , the pirate inspired action-adventure soon became a standalone game titled, Black Flag Infinite. As the game grew in scope, and technology advanced, the envisioned MMO that was Black Flag Infinite slowly became the Skull & Bone

Comic Book Review - Blade Runner 2039 Volume #1: Luv

Aahna Ashina’s story enters its endgame as Blade Runner 2039 begins… It’s been quite a tough journey for Blade Runner Aahna “Ash” Ashina. Beginning way back in Blade Runner 2019 , Ash ended up helping Cleo Selwin and her clone replicant mother escape from Cleo’s father, Alexander Selwin. Now twenty years later and the adult Cleo is back on Earth on the search for her missing “Mother” whose abduction has been orchestrated by Replicant manufacturer Niander Wallace.  Elsewhere and Wallace has also been involved in creating a more obedient line of Replicant. The greatest achievement of this resurgence in Replicant manufacturing is Luv, Niander Wallace’s personal assistant - and first Replicant to hold the title of ‘Blade Runner’. With Ash spending the past few years living “off the grid”, Cleo not only has to track down the person who saved her life, she also has to avoid Luv who has orders of her own.  Blade Runner 2039: Luv collects issues #1-#4 of the (as of writing) current series.
