Comic Book Review - 2000 AD Prog 2228

Rob Reviews 2000 AD Prog 2228...

It's Wednesday yet again and here we are with Prog 2228 and what a Prog this one is - just look at Leo Manco's incredible cover!

We bid farewell to Sláine this week as Pat Mills' last ever Sláine story - 'Dragontamer' comes to its much-delayed end.
Regardless of your thoughts about both Sláine and Mills, saying goodbye to a long-running character is always a tough choice. Anyway does Sláine get the send-off into a (possible) eternal slumber that he deserves? Well, you'll have to read on to find out...

Sláine isn't the only goodbye this week, as 'Chorus & The Ring' also bid farewell too. But for everything else it's business as normal Dredd tangles with the SJS in 'A Penitent Man', Seema starts to piece things together in 'Thistlebone', and there are more shenanigans in 'Feral & Foe II'.

Judge Dredd: A Penitent Man - Part 4

Things are never what they seem in Mega-City 1. Asher's random attack wasn't as random as first seen, and now the former Judge is in the hands of the SJS...or is he?

'A Penitent Man' is shaping up to be a thrilling Judge Dredd tale. Asher's on the run and is utilising his Judge training to do so, Dredds hot on his trail, and the SJS are lurking within the shadows.

Ken Niemand is doing wonderful things with his current running story's, and 'A Penitent Man' is cementing his status as one of the top Dredd writers.

Thistlebone: Poisoned Roots - Part 8

The "root" of Seema and Harrovale's problems all seem to be pointing back to that eventful scouting trip in the woods. Seema's gotten a lead and one of the former scouts is willing to talk. And at the centre of it all is - Malcolm Kinniburgh.

TC Eglinton is pushing the tension to an utter boiling point and it all centres around Malcolm Kinniburgh. Just what's exactly going on is anyone's guess but Seema is pretty close to cracking the whole thing.

Simon Davis gives us yet another serene trip into the past as Robert Whitebeam recounts the scouts trip. It's all bright and 'chirpy' until the evil shows up, and then it's back to the murky undertones that make up the rest of Thistlebone

Sláine: Dragontamer - Part 10

And here we are. The final ever Sláine series by Pat Mills is now into its final part.

After a few weeks break, Mills and Manco throw us straight back into the action. Sláine has released Brutus' 'Dragon-Man' son, who just so happens to burn down the University. As the revelation of Brutus having a mutant son is unleashed on the Brutania people, Sláine rides Murdris into a final battle.

And that's how it ends. 'Dragontamer' has been a wild ride. Is it Mills greatest Sláine tale? Well, I'll let you decide that. Manco's work has been incredible throughout Dragontamer and I can't wait to see what comes next.

Tharg's 3Rillers Presents Chorus and the Ring - Part 3

Sister Evangelista's journey comes to an end this week as she does battle with the Pontiff of the Chorus faith. But as all things begin, they must end. So what does this mean for the Chorus?

'Chorus and the Ring' has been a pretty decent story. While it's been predictable in places, James Peaty has given us a good sci-fi yarn. Add in Mike Collins's impressive sci-fi scenes and Dylan Teague's gorgeous colours. And this Tharg's 3Riller has been a joyous ride.

Feral and Foe II - Part 4

The trio of adventurers finally come face to face with the Necromancer, Golgone. Things don't go according to plan as Golgone chastises the party for treating her lair as a 'walk-in clinic'. Que some to and throw, and in true RPG video game fashion, we're off on a "side quest" as Bode puts it.

I'm enjoying Feral and Foe at the minute. Dan Abnett's fantasy drama has all the inklings of a demented game of D&D. From the body-swapped hero's to an unhelpful Necromancer. Everything feels like the "Dungeon Master" has thrown out the rule book - and it's bloody brilliant!

Rating 9/10
