Comic Book Review - 2000 AD Prog 2245
Rob checks out 2000 AD Prog 2245...
There has made his weekly return with another packed weekly instalment of 2000 AD. As Joko-Jargo sets to take over next week with another Regened Prog, things start to slow down.
We say goodbye to Aquila and the current Dredd story this week, yet everything else continues. There's more goings-on in Skip Tracer and Dexter to shake a stick at, and let's not forget a new Terror Tale!
Judge Dredd: Now That's What I Call Justice - Part 6 (Final Part)
Both John Wagner and John Higgins have played a blinder with Now That's What I Call Justice. It's had all the hallmarks of what's made Judge Dredd great throughout the years. Having the whole serial killer, Justice Watch fiasco taking place under the banner of a whacky tube show is a great slice into MegaCity-1 life.
Anyway, Dredd starts to wrap things up this issue with some "classic" Dredd justice. There's a nice throwback to The Apocalypse War as Dredd's nuking of East-Meg-1 claimed the top spot - who saw it coming? There is also a classic Wagner moment too, as Dredd makes his appearance behind the unsuspecting Perp.
All in all, Now That's What I Call Justice has been a fun strip that's been experience crafted by both Wagner and Higgins.
Skip Tracer: Eden - Part 9
So, Nimrod's pulled a turn on the Consociation and ends up running the show - shock horror. It's quite the episode as Blake's arch-enemy begin to take control. With both Blake and his equally gifted daughter, Eden now trapped well and truly in Lion's den what next?
Skip Tracer has its moments of decency and this episode had been a good one. If Skip Tracer was a movie it'll be your classic popcorn-munching flick - plenty of action but not enough substance. Someone call Micheal Bay.
Dexter: Bulletopia Chapter 6 - Somewhere Beyond The Sea - Part 3
Things have hit the fan for Dexter. The group finds themselves within Planktown where no one believes them about the Rogue A.I. threat. Meanwhile, Sinister is nearby and is closing in on his former partner.
I'm a big fan of weird military machines and the inclusion of a Russian Lun-class ekranoplan (to me) is awesome. Seriously this thing was shaping up to be a brute - if only the Russians got it to work!
Anyway, Abnett ups the pace with this outing as the two gunaharks head closer to their inevitable confrontation.
Tharg's Terror Tales: The Torturer's Apprentice - Part 1
This one comes from the winners of the 2000 AD and Thought Bubble Script & Art Contest, Paul Starkey and James Newell. The more observant of us will already know Newell's art from this year's Sci-Fi Special. So not exactly the talented artists first 2000 AD rodeo.
It's a great pairing as the duo craft a great tale of crooked cops, Satanic Cults, and a book of many names. It's got a great twist and some gorgeous art. Keep an eye on both of these two...good things are bound to come from both!
Aquila: The River of Hades - Book One - Part 10 (Final Part)
Aquila continues his tour of Hades with more bloodshed. It's been quite the journey that's centred on relentless action and not a lot more. But what do you expect from an immortal gladiator who's slaying his way through the Underworld?
Gordon Rennie ends this part of Aquila's story on a high. If anything the crazy action in The River of Hades has been a welcomed sight over the last ten weeks.
