Comic Book Review - Way Of X #2
Rob reviews Way Of X #2...
Way Of X has gotten off to a great start and in only two issues has established itself as both. a great X-Men comic, and a series for Marvel to showoff Nightcrawler. Not only does the teleporting mutant get a lot of screen time, he's also at the center of what's fast becoming a must read story.
Picking up where the opening issue left off, this second continues to revel in the reveal of Legion's whereabouts - yet does so with quite the twist. What's more interesting with Way Of X #2 is that by exploring Legion, Si Spurrier also changes the whole Krakoan dynamics that have been built over the last year.
So, Legion is in a pretty bad place right now. His body is trapped, and his astral form is neither here nore there. And as such he needs Nightcrawlers help. To make matters worse, Nightcrawler discovers that Orchis is attempting to sabotage things on Krakoa, and an even bigger threat is looming in the shadows. What starts out as a simple rescue mission soon turns into something far more, with Kurt the only one able to stop it.
The story comes at us at quite the pace as Spurrier establishes that everything isn't as it seems. With the revelation that something (or someone) much larger is on the horizon, Spurrier adds quite the chunk of tension to the proceedings. There's plenty of subtle hints thrown in as to who is behind the recent events - yet nothing is revealed. It's all part of the much wider story, and so far its working pretty well. Spurrier also adds a new layer to both the established Krakoan lore and Orchis. Which further expands both the mutants character, and mutant society as a whole.
Artwork comes from the talented Bob Quinn, and continues to be truly magnificent. Quinn packs a lot of detail into his art that creates a wonderful fluid motion across the entire issue. Action sequences are choreographed extremely well and allows Quinn to have some fun in showcasing Nightcrawlers unique talents.
Rating 7/10
