Comic Book Review: 2000AD Prog 2224
Rob Lake reviews 2000AD Prog 2224...
Cover Star this week comes from John McCrea, who gives us a gorgeous look at Dredd doing what he does best...
There's only four strips coming our way this week as the returning Feral & Foe II gets the double-length treatment.
Other than that it's business as normal with more strange goings on in Thistlebone: Poisoned Roots, and the finale of both Who Killed Captain Cookies and Nakka of the S.T.A.R.S.
Judge Dredd: Who Killed Captain Cookies - Part 4
This week Ken Niemand and PJ Holden end the latest adventure of everyone's favorite Mega-City 1 vigilante, Noam Chimpsky.
So, Noam's done all the hard work which then leaves Dredd to come and make the bust and do the paperwork.
While Who Killed Captain Cookies isn't going to have any wider ramifications, it's been a fun tale neitherless. Much with any Dredd character, Noam Chimpsky brings his fair share of social media criticism. But I for one, feel that these "fun" and "silly" tales give a welcome distraction from seeing the world through Dredd's law tinted visor.
Thistlebone: Poisoned Roots - Part 4
Things continue to get weird in both Harrowvale and the surrounding woods. Seema is continuing her research into the events of the previous events of Thistlebone Vol. 1, which brings her into the events of that scouting trip of 1984.
Simon Davis takes us back to 1984 with the same art style seen within last weeks Part 3. It's a great way of taking the story into the past and keeping the gritty, Dark and dull style of the future, we'll..in the future.
It seems that as Thistlebone goes on the more and more Malcom Kinniburgh seems to be the center of it all. Of course Seema is just as oblivious as we are, so it's over to TC Eglinton to give us another glimpse next week.
Tharg's 3Rillers: Nakka of the S.T.A.R.S. - Part 3
Brendan McCarthy's Heartbeat/Blade Runner/Midsomer Murders tale of murder and sci-fi silliness reaches its conclusion this week. Detective Nakrosky and his Robot sidekick Penny take on a rogue robot Vicar that just happens to ruin a quiet game of bowls! The swine!
McCarthy has given us quite the bizzare tale these last three weeks. I'm always questionable about the effectiveness of Tharg's 3Rillers. They throw so much at you in a short space of time, that they never seem to get going. Either way, this one has been fun, albeit a strange doorway into McCarthy's imagination.
Feral & Foe II - Part 1
If like me you've not read Feral & Foe, Dan Abnett gives you a pretty good recap of the events as well as explaining Wraith and Boone's friendship.
The comedy and fantasy comes quick and fast as Abnett and Richard Elson give us a great double-length opening to the next part in the adventure. Elson packs a lot of detail into his artwork and everything looks fantastic as a result. The greens and purples they denote the backstory are of particular interest, which you can check out below...
Rating 8/10
