Comic Book Review - 2000 AD Prog 2261

Rob reviews 2000 AD Prog 2261...

As "Rona" descends its ugliness across my household, I'm holding up in my quarantine cube to bring you my thoughts on this week's 2000 AD offering - Prog 2261.

We're into the final "normal" Prog of 2021 as next week sees the yearly Xmas special Prog landing on shelves and through letterboxes. It's already been shown (thanks to IGN) that Dredd is going to be meeting both his Sylvester Stallone and Karl Urban counterparts, which is something I can't wait to read!

Anyway, Prog 2261 sees the finales to Scarlet Traces, the latest chapter of Sinister Dexter, and Sensitive Klegg's Judge Dredd The Musical. Also, Dan Abnett finally reveals the Tankinar in The Out

Judge Dredd: The Musical - Part 3 (Final Part)

As the curtains close on Sensitive Klegg's musical extravaganza, we get a whole extra 4-pages. That means not only do we get more craziness but more pages of excellent work by Chris Weston

It's opening night and Sensitive Klegg is performing in front of a sold-out crowd. The only problem is that his Judge Death is anything but ready, Walter is afraid of missing his cue, and there's a sniper up in the rafters. So, a typical night out in the Meg?

Turns out that everything is the mass plan of Enormo Overdrive III, the offspring of Trifecta bad-shark, Enormo Overdrive. After watching his father's empire fall from the sky, young Enormo III has bonded his DNA with a hammerhead shark. Not only that he's out for revenge on both Sensitive Klegg and Dredd.

Naturally, things don't go to plan, which gives both Williams and Weston plenty of room to have some fun. There's plenty of gorgeous artwork from Chris Weston, with a lot of standout scenes. It's also nice to see Rob Williams call back to the events of Trifecta, and introduce yet another megalomaniac in Enormo Overdrive III.

The Out: Book 2 - Part 11

Cyd's on the run from the Tankinar and finds herself on the planet Huang. Everyone's rushing to the safety of the planets bunker because...well the Tankinar are here!

Yes, Cyd has a reason to be afraid. Not only did the mysterious Tankinar destroy everything in their way in Book 1. They also killed Cyd!

This part shows how great Dan Abnett's writing is. While the Tankinar is yet to be revealed, everything is written with a lot of emotion. We see this through Cyd's sheer panic that she's in the same place as before, as well as the other refugees attempting to escape their demise.

Then we get the reveal. As Cyd takes her chances against the carnivorous pink weed, she's confronted by a Tankinar - a towering monstrosity that looks both organic and mechanical in design. In a blind panic to escape, Cyd resorts to utilising her bag's unique properties.

After weeks of trundling along, The Out is finally giving Cyd something to fight for. We've gone from the photojournalist doing her job to the revelation that her daughter is alive, to now being confronted by her nightmare. The Out is certainly a roller coaster of emotion, and I'm eagerly awaiting what's to come.

Scarlet Traces: Storm Front - Part 11 (Final Part)

Twenty-Five years have passed since we saw Ahron appeal to the Martians to lay down their arms and end the war. Now we're at the launching of a new joint adventure as a Human, Jovian, Venusian, and Martian set off on a voyage of discovery on board the Argo.

It's a nice ending to this first phase of Scarlet Traces. This War of the Worlds inspired adventure has vastly exceeded what originally inspired it. With the tease of an even greater threat out there in the cosmos, Storm Front has taken on an almost 2001: A Space Odyssey vibe. While we'll have to wait to see what's next in-store, Edgington does leave us with one big cliffhanger.

Dexter: Bulletopia Chapter 7 - Lordy Jordy King of Everything - Part 4 (Final Part)

The latest chapter of Sin/Dex is coming to an end. Much like previous chapters, this one ends with yet more betrayal, and Dexter is no closer to ending the Rogue AI threat.

Hopefully, there's more forward momentum as the next chapter in the long-running series kicks off next week.
