Comic Book Review - 2000 AD Prog 2248

Rob checks out 2000 AD Prog 2248...

It's time to venture out into the Thrillverse as Tharg returns with another instalment of the 2000 AD weekly Prog.

As we edge ever closer to the next semi-jumping on an issue that's coming with Prog 2250, we're starting to see the conclusion to s few of the featured strips. This week we say "goodbye" to the latest Dexter arc, with Skip Tracer and Tharg's 3Rillers entering their penultimate parts too. However...Dredd is still in the thick of it in The House on Bleaker Street and there's more Rogue Trooper-verse with Jaegir.

Judge Dredd: The House on Bleaker Street - Part 2

We're heading back to Necropolis as Ken Niemand puts the "evil block computer" theory to rest...seriously who thought that was the culprit?

Anyway as the Dark Judges and Judge Kraken ploughed their way through The Meg, Bleaker Street acted as a safe house for those not affected by the events. It's during this time that the house got its bad reputation. There's something old lurking within the bowels of the building and it's looking for Dredd, Tenza, and the kidnapped baby.

Nick Percival is the go-to artist when it comes to horror-Dredd. The whole tale has a spooky vibe to it, which wouldn't have half the effect if it wasn't drawn by Percival. The whole thing comes to an end in the next Prog, but here's hoping we get a Niemand/Percival team-up again soon.

Skip Tracer: Eden - Part 11

Did you see it coming? Good old dependable Skip Tracer plays it safe yet again. Naturally, Eden was always going to save the day, and it's here where she does. Considering last week we got a glimmer of hope as Blake quite literally pummelled Nimrod senseless, James Peaty soon takes us back to "safe territory".

Anyway, Paul Marshall and Dylan Teague continue to deliver some great art - even as the story fades into obscurity.

Dexter: Bulletopia Chapter 6: Somewhere Beyond The Sea - Part 5

The latest chapter in the Sinister/Dexter saga comes to a close and this time around it's been a little more memorable. The Rogue A.I. is still moving closer to world domination. But more importantly, we've seen the break up of the team index. Will the band regroup in Chapter 7? Well, they will eventually, but knowing Dan Abnett there's going to be more likely before they do.

Tharg's 3Rillers: The Mask of Laverna - Part 2

It's quite a decent part of this three-parter. The Mask of Laverna is in the hands of the around bad guy - Chakarov. His target is held up in witness protection under an armed guard. Little do they know that a possessed corpse is heading into the building on a mission of its own. Que Adelphi to turn up and that's when things get more interesting!

So far, so good for Robert Murphy and Steve Austin's simple three-parter. While Adelphi is naturally going to save the day within the next part, it's still been a fun ride nonetheless. And of course, Austin art is always a pleasure to see in the Progs - or anywhere else.

Jaegir: The Path of Kali - Part 2

There's a bit of time jumping in this one as Gordon Rennie attempts to explain Kali's history and tie it into current events. More questions are coming at the moment which will indeed be answered in due time. But for now, I'll happily take Rennie's writing and Simon Coleby's art for a while as yet!
