Comic Book Review - 2000 AD Prog 2242

Rob reviews 2000 AD Prog 2242...

Another Wednesday and another Prog has landed onto store shelves and doormats.

Clint Langley takes the cover top spot this week with a gorgeous shot of Dredd towering over the MC-1 skyline.

Inside however it's more the same. Justice Watch continue their work in Now That's What I Call Justice, Nimrod breaks up the family reunion in Skip Tracer, Department K are in the thick of it in Cosmic Chaos, Finnigan enters The Matrix in Sinnister, and finally, Aquila tackles a God...

Judge Dredd: Now That's What I Call Justice - Part 4

The Justice Watch have been quite busy over the last few episodes. The self appointed Judges of the Judges have assassinated every Judge who they deem of breaking the Law. Now a copycat killer had joined the fray which leads to plenty plenty head scratching from Dredd.

Meanwhile 'View From The Chair' continue their countdown...are the events connected? Of course they are!

Wagner almost places Dredd into the background in this one. With both Justice Watch and the Copycat at work, it can't be long before both land in Dredd's sight. Until then let the countdown continue which means more great work from Wagner and Higgins.

Skip Tracer: Eden - Part 6

So, Nolan Blake has a child, child has the same powers as her father, and now Nimrod has turned up again. Peaty ups the ante in this one as Nimrod mercilessly slaughters his way through the family reunion.

I'm still firmly on the Skip Tracer fence. Even though there's plenty to this episode, it still feels incredibly safe. However we still have Paul Marshall's art and Dylan Teague's colours to enjoy.

Department K: Cosmic Chaos - Part 9

Department K's search into who - or what - killed the Locust has brought them into conflict with the Valox. With the entire multiverse at steak, Department K are all that stands in the way of the Valox and their multiverse ending goal.

The multiverse theroy has been in the limelight recently what with the events seen in Marvel's Loki, and the publishers plans for "Phase 4". While I'm enjoying Department K, I hope it doesn't turn into something silly. Anyway, there's more Giger inspired settings as McConville and Cornwell continue their space caper.

Sinnister Bulletopia Chapter Five: It's Own Devices - Part 2

Of course Finn wasn't really dead. But, I think we all knew that anyway. Now firmly under the A.I's control Finn is sent after Dexter, Carrie, and Billi.

Dan Abnett brings a twist in the tale as last week revealed that the all conquering rogue A.I. happened to be a simple sat nav that gained sentience. Whilst I was expecting something more akin to Skynet, this reveal fits perfectly into the "funt" up world of Downlode.

Aquila: The River of Hades - Book One - Part 5

Chronos the Titan has risen from its firey bed and has Aquila firmly within its sights. The mere sight of the towering Titan would send fear right into the heart of any man. However it takes Aquila just three blood filled pages to send the Titan back to where it came.

Aquila feels very much like Kratos from the video game 'God of War'. He's taking out God's and Demons like their cockroaches beneath his boot, doesn't take any shit, and thanks to Patrick Goddard and Dylan Teague he looks damn good doing it.

Crafting the Apocalypse with Kek-W

Rob takes a trip to Deadworld with 2000 AD writer Kek-W… ‘ The Fall of Deadworld: Redemption ’ made its return to the 2000 AD Prog this week. While the battle for Sector 13 and the wider city rumbles on, I spoke to curator of chaos, Kek-W about Deadworld past, and more importantly, its future. Looking back, what first attracted you to writing what’s essentially the Dark Judges origin  story? KW - Well, the first four DREAMS OF DEADWORLD stories that Dave and I did were well received,  so rather than just doing more of the same - stories that showcased the individual Dark Judges - I pitched the idea of telling the back-story of how the four of them destroyed an entire world. How did that happen, how might it work? I figured it was a landscape ripe with dramatic story-telling potential. 'Ripe' being the operative word! (laughs) I also thought it might be interesting to focus in on a ordinary family, to see and experience the collapse of civilization  from their point of view and

Rogue Trooper - Blighty Valley TPB Announced

Garth Ennis takes a journey back to NU-Earth… Today, August 29th marks a pivotal moment in 2000 AD history. Back in 1981, Gerry Findley-Day and Dave Gibbons introduced GI Rogue Trooper. As a Genetic Infantry, Rogue is bred to survive the harsh war-torn environment of NU-Earth. Soon betrayed by his superiors, Rogue is forced to seek his revenge while traversing the dangerous battlefield that NU-Earth has become. With the bio-chip personalities of his former comrades as his only allies, Rogue spent the next few years tracking down the Traitor General.  Fast-forward to today, and 2000 AD have announced that ‘Blighty Valley’  , Garth Ennis and Patrick Goddard’s recent foray into NU-Earth is being released in a trade paperback collection. ‘ Blighty Valley is Rogue’s first regular appearance in 2000 AD in a number of years – a thirteen-part story set at 'Night’s Horizon', the annual event where Nu Earth’s orbit carries it closest to a nearby black hole. The Norts call it Zvartchvinte

Comic Book Review - The Best of 2000 AD Vol. 3

Rob reviews The Best of 2000 AD Vol.3… The ‘Ultimate Mix-Tape’ of 2000 AD’s greatest hits is back for its third volume. Packed with an array of specially curated strips,  The Best of 2000 AD series does its very best in introducing you to the world of Tharg, and his Thrillverse. Much like its predecessors, this volume offers up an enticing mixture of strips and feature that draw across all corners of the wider 2000 AD mythos. While we do get a couple of standard trips to Mega-City 1 with Judge Dredd, series Editor Owen Johnson shows us the anthologies more “Tales of the Unexplained” side as things get a little bizarre.  Personally, this third volume has been my favourite out of the series so far. Not only does it feature a Judge Dredd written by Michael Carroll, we also have the debut of Ian Edginton  and D’Israeli. While you’d think that Johnson would of opted to include the duo’s phenomenal Scarlet Traces, he’s instead swapped the Earth/Mars war for the Atlantic Ocean, as we get a mu
