Hardware Review - Razer Kaira Wireless Headset
Rob Lake reviews Razer Kaira Wireless Headset...
The Razer Kaira headset is a headset that's rapidly become my go-to accessory to use with my Xbox Series X. The Kaira is wireless, seamlessly connects to the Series X, and more importantly, they sound fantastic.
Razer Kaira Specs:
- FlowKnit memory foam ear cushions
- Bendable Razer HyperClear cardioid mic
- Razer Triforce Titanium 50MM Drivers
- Xbox Wireless Connection
- 15 Hour Battery Life
The Razer Kaira first and foremost is a wireless headset that's been designed for use with the Xbox console family. This means that it uses the Xbox's Wireless technology to connect to the console at the touch of a button. While the Kaira can also be used on a PC it does mean buying a Microsoft Wireless Adapter for the product to work. However, don't let that put you off. The Razer Kaira offers a fantastic audio experience, without breaking the bank.
The headset itself is made entirely of plastic, with a soft memory foam cushion for your ears. The headset is deceptively lightweight and still feels comfortable after a hefty gaming session. The headband offers a tight comfortable grip that keeps the sound bleeding out to a minimum. The speakers themselves are connected to a durable axis that offers a degree of flexibility and these can also be lengthened if needed.
When it comes to tech, the Razer Kaira has everything located on-ear. On the left side speaker, you'll find the volume dial, power button and mic switch. While the right-side speaker is home to the sync button and the dial to control balance. This means that adjustments can be made on the fly with minimal fuss. The functions are also well spaced out and neither speaker feels cluttered.
Gaming with Kaira is a great experience. I play a lot of Destiny 2 and hearing bullets and lasers whip past you with crystal clear clarity is an experience, to say the least. Even when the game is quite the Kaira handles everything well. From the faint hum of machinery in the Tower to the howling winds of Europa, everything sounds fantastic.
The microphone is permanently attached to the left side of the headset, but it offers a high degree of elasticity with its cable. When testing the mic in party chat my voice came through clear and didn't sound tinny or have too much bass to it. Likewise, when it came to receiving voice commands, everything came through with a high degree of clarity.
Battery life is also a major factor when it comes to buying a gaming headset. With the Kaira, Razer claims that it has a battery span of about 15 hours on a single charge. Whilst this is impressive, I found that my demo unit hit roughly 16-17 hours before needing to charge. When it comes to charging the headset, Razer includes a USB-C charging cable so the Kaira can be charged via most sources.
If you're in the market for a headset to use for an Xbox console then seriously consider the Razer Kaira. Its comfortable lightweight design allows for lengthy gaming sessions, without any discomfort. It's got a great microphone and a fantastic set of speakers. The range of sound is also brilliant, which allows you to hear bullets and footsteps with relative ease.
