Comic Book Review - Mighty Morphin #14

Image
Rob reviews Mighty Morphin #14... Since Zartus and the Eltarians arrived on Earth things have been steadily building towards an explosive climax. This explosion came in two forms. Not only did the Supreme Guardian destroy Zordon - and the Command Center. He's also taken out Promethea, and Lord Zedd's Palace on the Moon.  With the Rangers - and Zedd's minions - on their heels, both groups retreat to relative safety and in doing so begin to gravitate to the current situation. Meanwhile Billy and Alpha-5 attempt to revive Zordon, which involves diving into the formers past experiences.  Mighty Morphin #14 is a bit of a sombre affair. The action is very toned down as we're shown a team at their darkest times. Not only have they lost their leader, but the team is also split between Earth and Safehaven. The main arc in this issue revolves around Billy's search for Zordon, but it's during the parts away from this that the writing shines. I'v...

Comic Book Review - Doctor Who: Empire Of The Wolf #1

Image
Rob reviews Doctor Who: Empire Of The Wolf #1... It's not that often that we get a Doctor Who comic that features Paul McGann 's Doctor. While we only saw him during the 1996 Doctor Who movie, this incarnation has been more fleshed out via various audio dramas and expanded works. Now, Titan Comics and Doctor Who stalwarts, Jody Houser and Roberta Ingranata  are bringing us Empire Of The Wolf. A crossover that's going to bring a lot of the Doctor's past and future together.  The plot of  Empire Of The Wolf builds upon a few years worth of Doctor Who storytelling. On one side we have Rose Tyler, still trapped in the alternative timeline due to the battle of Canary Warf, and is still shadowed by "Bad Wolf". On the other side, we have a pre-Time War 8th Doctor and the 11th Doctor, who's fresh from losing Amy and Rory. Completing the group is alternative/alternative Rose who just so happens to be the 'Bad Wolf Empress'. Whether this is due ...

Video Game Review - Before We Leave

Image
Rob reviews Before We Leave on Xbox Series X... Post-apocalyptic titles have the luxury of building their narratives. They don't have to rely on predetermined factors such as established lore, or even locations. Everything is up for interpretation as you essentially discover this new world with your character. Where titles such as Fallout on the struggles of the immediate aftermath,  Before We Leave focuses on the ever after. The world has recovered from its unknown apocalyptic state, and as such the inhabitants that survived are reaching out from the safety of their underground shelters. Whether they survive or not is up to you. You'll be the invisible force guiding these fledgling explorers as they attempt to rebuild in a world that's now unfamiliar to them. At its core Before We Leave is a city builder that takes you from a few settlers living in huts to intergalactic civilisation.  Before We Leave constantly fills you with a great blend of relax...

Comic Book Review - 2000 AD Prog 2261

Image
Rob reviews 2000 AD Prog 2261... As "Rona" descends its ugliness across my household, I'm holding up in my quarantine cube to bring you my thoughts on this week's 2000 AD offering - Prog 2261.  We're into the final "normal" Prog of 2021 as next week sees the yearly Xmas special Prog landing on shelves and through letterboxes. It's already been shown (thanks to IGN) that Dredd is going to be meeting both his Sylvester Stallone and Karl Urban counterparts, which is something I can't wait to read!   Anyway, Prog 2261 sees the finales to Scarlet Traces , the latest chapter of Sinister Dexter , and Sensitive Klegg's Judge Dredd The Musical . Also,  Dan Abnett finally reveals the Tankinar in The Out .  Judge Dredd: The Musical - Part 3 (Final Part) As the curtains close on Sensitive Klegg's musical extravaganza, we get a whole extra 4-pages. That means not only do we get more craziness but more pages of excellent work by Chris West...

Comic Book Review - The Magic Order 2 #2

Image
Rob reviews The Magic Order 2 #2... Mark Millar 's The Magic Order 2 launched itself with a bang last time out. Not only did we catch up with Cordelia and her magic-wielding family. We were also introduced to the Korne family - the "anti" version of the Order. There's a lot of information thrown at us on this issue. To begin with, Francis King is back on the scene after two years in rehab. On the surface, this powerful psychic seems to have it all. He's got all the charm and looks that someone who can manipulate minds would have. And he's also Cordelia Moonstone's ex. Aside from this revelation, Millar also touches upon Francis' internal struggle as he's still got his demons. We're then hit with a literal punch as we rejoin the Order as they tackle a particularly nasty monster in Chelmsford. What makes the Osedax gruesome is that it likes to eat the bones, blood, and guts of its prey. Not only that it strings up its victim's fl...
