What would you do if you could experience life as someone else?  Fresh from his writing duties with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Rogue Sun, Ryan Parrott takes us away from superheroes with the dark sci-fi tale Vicarious . Set within a near-future San Francisco, Vicarious takes us to a world where Proxies exist for the entertainment of the rich and famous. Comic Book Review - Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #100

Image
Rob reviews Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #100 It's been almost six years since BOOM! Studios launched Mighty Morphin Power Rangers . From its humble beginnings under Kyle Higgins , the series ultimately owes its success to resident scribe Ryan Parrott .  Throughout Parrott 's tenure, we've seen plenty of epic confrontations and storylines that have not only become instant classics - they've also changed the shape of the Power Rangers Universe for no doubt years to come. From the Eltarian War to Lord Drakkon (who continues to be a threat), the Power Rangers and their Omega Rangers counterparts have had the whole library of pain thrown at them.  However, with the series now having reached its milestone 100th issue, Ryan Parrott is calling time and handing over the wheel to Missy Flores. But before that, he's still got one more tale to tell... And boy! Is there a lot to cover?  After the last issue which saw the Death Ranger not only resurrect the fallen ...

Comic Book Review - Power Rangers #22

Rob reviews Power Rangers #22... As the Power Rangers universe heads to that special oversized 100th issue, Ryan Parrott gives us his swansong story for the Omega Rangers. The setup for #100 being set up across Power Rangers for several months now. With the Death Ranger finally making his introduction - and subsequent power play - Power Rangers #22 (Legacy #99) is the issue where everything changes.  Much like with Lord Zedd's origin story way back in  Mighty Morphin #10, I'm going to approach this review with as few spoilers as possible. While I won't delve into the bulk of the plot - be warned that some minor details may slip through.  Power Rangers #22 continues to follow the two battles that kicked off during the last issue. On Safehaven, Journey and Kevor are still dealing with Garrison Vox and his followers who have taken Arkon hostage. With all this going on we then have the Omega Rangers who have seemingly fallen straight into Andros' plan and now c...

Comic Book Review - Power Rangers #21

Rob reviews Power Rangers #21... The Rangers are well and truly on the path to that landmark #100th issue. With Ryan Parrott teasing that issue #100 won't leave a dry eye in the house. What does he have in store?  Well, right now we're still thick into the build-up and as such it's another "normal" day in the office for the Omega Rangers. After Andros interrogated the captured Xurix in the last issue, XI has discovered the location of the Astro Megaship - which just so happens to be deep within Xurix-held territory. With the Xurix interested in the contents of a locked room, and with Darkonda on his way to collect said content - time is running out.  As such Andros intends to infiltrate the Astro Megaship on his own as some kind of penance for his past failings. Yet, in true Ranager fashion, Jason convinces the Red Astro Ranger to allow himself, Yale, Trini, and Zack to tag along. What follows is a VERY interesting set of events that not only introduc...

Comic Book Review - Power Rangers #19

Image
Rob reviews Power Rangers #19... Ever since I started covering Power Rangers just after ' Shattered Grid ', I've often wondered how Ryan Parrott could top his previous story arc. While there was a lot of emotion at play in the ' Eltarian War', this seemingly normal issue of Power Rangers hits like an emotional freight train - not only for the unprepared reader but for its cast too!  Power Rangers #18 saw the team split up in an attempt to cover both distress calls at once. Trini and Zack discovered a derelict spacecraft with its single infant survivor, while Jason and Yale met up with ' Power Rangers In Space' character   Andros on his own decimated planet. Power Rangers #19 continues these threads as we see Zack and Trini attempt to be parents to their rescued alien, and Andros recruits Jason and Yale in his quest for vengeance. With two plots running concurrently a lot is going on, however, it all comes together into a world-shattering finale ...

Comic Book Review - Supermassive #1

Image
Rob reviews Supermassive #1... Since its launch last year, the world of Kyle Higgins and Marcelo Costa 's Radiant Black has set itself apart from other superhero stories. Kicking off 'year-2', Higgins has taken things further by enlisting Ryan Parrott and Mat Groom to create Supermassive - a superhero team-up that introduces and sets up two new titles - Rogue Sun  and Inferno Girl Red . Supermassive #1 sets off with a new hero, Inferno Girl Red chasing a two-headed beast through a snow-capped forest. Things take a turn for the worse as after receiving quite a punch from the hero, the monster then attacks an innocent bystander who happened to be in the same forest. This then causes Inferno Girl Red to catch the attention of Rogue Sun, who's alerted by the interdimensional wake that the duo left behind. As Red and Sun clash over their handling of the situation, both are interrupted as Radiant Black turns up. It's at this point where the crossover gets ...

Comic Book Review - Power Rangers #6

Image
Rob reviews Power Rangers #6... Last time out the Omega Rangers had gotten into a spot of bother. After being cheated out of the engine part to repair their ship, Zac and Jason encountered the mysterious Astronema. That's not all as the three then found themselves at the mercy of the S.P.D.  Meanwhile, Xi, Trini, and Drakkon come face to face with Astronema's mentor - Ecliptor.  Continuing from the Power Rangers Unlimited: Heir of Darkness one-shot, we learn a little more about Astronema's history and her relationship with Ecliptor. Turns out that a young Astronema was saved by a General of the Dark Specter after her home was destroyed by...Power Rangers!? And that's where issue 6 of Power Rangers heads. Ryan Parrott  gives us a good old fashioned Western jailbreak. With a side-order of morality and the often blurred lines of what's right and wrong.  Power Rangers #6 very much focuses on Drakkon, Trini, and Xi as the trio team up with Ecl...

Comic Book Review - Mighty Morphin #6

Rob reviews Mighty Morphin #6... Ryan Parrott is on to something incredible with Mighty Morphin . I know I say it a lot (every review) but each issue just gets better and better. Still reeling from the revelation that Matt Cook is the new Green Ranger, the Rangers are still having to contend with Lord Zedd and the impenetrable dome that surrounds Angel Grove.  So, in typical Mighty Morphin fashion, #6 kicks off with another trip into Zordon's past. We see a great bit of character building as Zordon and Zartus talk about the elephant in the room - Zordon's promotion to Chief Guardian. Naturally, Zartus is a bit peeved that Zophram chose Zordon over himself, but promises that he is loyal to the new Chief Guardian - and even admits that Zordon might be the better fighter. Back in the present and it's been 23-days since Lord Zedd surrounded Angel Grove with the Dome. Matt is still trapped inside, and the Rangers are still trapped outside. Now, this is where Ryan P...
