Flexi-Chair BS1B BackSupport Office Chair - Review

Rob checks out the Flexi-Chair BS1B BackSupport Office Chair...

Those of you who know me personally will know that the majority of my days consist of either sitting on a rickety stool at work or sitting hunched up on my floor at home (it's how I like to game!). In all honesty, both options aren't brilliant and as such I'm probably doing my back some (as of yet) unseen damage. With good lumbar support being more of a workplace health and safety focus, you can't forget about those of us who work - or game - at home.

With comfort and flexibility being key in any working environment, the good folks over at Flexispot have developed the Flexi-Chair BS1B. This office chair not only offers various degrees of comfort through its adjustable backrest and seat cushion, but it also features a very stylish and ergonomic design. While the BS1B isn't going to win against the more gamer-tailored chairs - it's a pretty good choice for those of us who work and game from home - or those on a budget.

As of writing the 'Flexi-Chair BS1B BackSupport Office Chair' - to give its full title - is currently retailing at £259.99. The interesting thing with the BS1B is that its design differs between its UK (version reviewed) and its US counterpart. While both chairs are outwardly the same chair, the US 'Soutien Ergonomic Office Chair' features a 3D lumbar support system that's not included with its UK product. However, the cushioned 4D armrests, breathable mesh, and 135⁰ backrest tilt are all present.

I've been using the BS1B for about a month now, and it's rapidly become part of my everyday life. While the chair is too bulky to take to the day job 5-days a week, it has made its home in my gaming set-up. Regardless of whether, I'm gaming, reading, or writing this review, the BS1B allows me to do so in pretty good comfort and support.

Naturally, when the BS1B arrives it needs to be assembled. Thankfully Flexispot has kept the average Joe in mind as the chair's construction manual was pretty concise and very easy to follow. Roughly there are about six screws used to secure the backrest to the base, and the head support. And while you will need the use of a hex-key, the BS1B comes with the right tool included. When it came to overall build time, the BS1B took about 20 minutes to put together. My only real criticism of this is that one of the screws that connect the base to the back doesn't seem to screw all the way. Upon close inspection, the reason seems to be a defect on the joint thread. While it doesn't necessarily make the chair unsafe, it has caused me to check on multiple occasions if the bolt had come loose.

When it comes to style the BS1B sits firmly at the back of the office chair bus. The whole design is geared towards being functional and looking good at the same time. Don't get me wrong, comfort is at the forefront of the BS1B's design, but everything from the durable back mesh, comfortable cushion, and even the design of the height adjuster helps elevate the chair's sense of elegance.

Diving into its functionality and the BS1B performs pretty well. The backseat mesh is incredibly durable and allows your back to sink into it without pushing you to sit bolt upright. The breathable design of these threads also means that even on hot days, the chair remains breathable - and doesn't develop a sticky symbiote relationship with whoever sits on it - I'm looking at you leather chair! While I didn't get to experience that 3D lumbar support system that the US version has, I can imagine it enhances the comfort to a much higher level.

In terms of specifications, the BS1B supports an adjustable height from 44-53cm. This is performed via a handy lever that is positioned under the chair's right-hand side. The headrest is also adjustable which allows the seat to fully adjust to your posture, rather than you adjusting to the seat. Considering that the BS1B is designed to keep you sitting upright, the chair also accommodates those cheeky lean-back moments. While I've not fully dozed off in the chair - it's safe to say that the BS1B is a great accompanying companion if you do choose to doze off at the desk!

At the end of the day, the Flexispot BS1B Back Support Office Chair is a superb piece of kit. Its stylish design oozes class, flexibility, and comfort at an affordable price. Regardless of your profession, whether gaming - or crunching spreadsheets - the BS1B allows you to sit comfortably for long hours. While it would have been great to check out that 3D lumbar support that the UK design is sadly missing - this chair is still a worthwhile investment.
