Comic Book Review - Deadpool: Bad Blood #1

Rob reviews Deadpool: Bad Blood #1...

Yes! You've read the title of this review correct! Originally released back in 2017, Bad Blood started its life out as an original graphic novel. However, Marvel has decided to re-release Rob Liefeld's first OGN foray with Deadpool within a serialised format. But does it work?

Well, the short answer is yes it does, but this is due to Deadpool being...well Deadpool. Whether you see the "Merc with a Mouth" as a versatile or flat character, you at least know what you're getting. And Bad Blood is exactly that. It's an action-packed, third-wall breaking, wise-ass, dive into Deadpool's bread and butter. So while it's not exactly a new story, it does at least bring new readers into one of Wade Wilson's more "interesting" missions.

Bad Blood focuses on Deadpool's relationship with the mysterious 'Thumper'. This first issue starts pretty well in describing the situation that Wade currently finds himself in. This mysterious enemy keeps turning up to thump Wade into oblivion for literally zero reasons. As you can imagine these constant beat-downs are rapidly pissing Wade off, and as such he sets off to find out who - or what - Thumper is.

Liefeld also Domino along for the ride as she drafted in to help identify who Thumper is. After a very long-winded conversation - which brings us up to date with the story - Domino jogs Wade's memory slightly with a mention of a mission to Lofoten Island. We then get X-Force's side of events before the issue ends with a showdown between them and...yup, Deadpool.

For those who haven't read the original graphic novel, Bad Blood is a brilliant read. Liefeld's script brings out the best side of Deadpool as he goes around the houses to piece the Thumper puzzle pieces together. While it can be seen as being a little heavy on exposition it's a good thing. The artwork is also well presented with plenty of gorgeous linework and well-choreographed fight scenes.

Rating: 8/10
