Video Game Review - Lawn Mowing Simulator: Dino Safari
Ellie reviews Lawn Mowing Simulator: Dino Safari on Xbox Series S...
Last year saw the release of Lawn Mowing Simulator and as such another slice of the mundane real-world was given a virtual makeover. I originally reviewed the base title, which to be fair - didn't disappoint. So when I saw there was the option to review this dinosaur-themed DLC I was instantly drawn to it. Even as an adult I find dinosaurs fascinating so of course I was going to jump at the chance to mow some grass around them!
The Dino Safari pack gives us four brand new areas and twelve contracts that all take place within a dinosaur theme park. Our time is mainly spent within four areas which all revolve around a dinosaur theme; T-Rex Paddock, Herbivore Valley, Raptor Enclosure and Cretaceous Canyon. Each offers various contracts to complete with varying degrees of difficulty.
I initially wondered how it would work with the dinosaurs. Would they be walking around while I'm cutting the grass? or would they be stationary? Sadly the dinosaurs are just animatronics and as such, they stay in one spot. They do occasionally move their heads or tails and make some noise, but they don't rampage about like in a certain movie. If anything they act as giant obstacles as each will have a patch of grass underneath that needs mowing. You do have to be careful around these giant models as damaging one can result in a hefty fine.
It isn't all cutting grass, as this DLC introduces litter picking contracts too. They're not particularly difficult to complete, but do offer something different to do. To keep you gripped to lawn mowing there's also a range of collectables to be found. While running around to pick up rubbish before starting the grass cutting you can hunt for these valuables, and there is one in each of the areas of the park. These collectables range from fossils to even a walking stick that looks like John Hammonds from Jurassic Park...
The scenery in Dino Safari is pretty. Each location is packed with detail which helps build the atmosphere of a tranquil dinosaur park. In between the pristine lawns, there are information boards, signposts, and even a picnic area. The dinosaurs are also pretty decent looking too, with the authentic electric fencing and volcanos in the background. The DLC also gives you the chance to unlock six new achievements.
Much like the base game, the Dino Safari is a great game to relax. It's not particularly taxing and is a great way to spend an hour (or two) just mowing grass whilst listening to your favourite podcast or playing your favorite playlist. The only real issue I did have is that some missions take up a lot of time. This is mainly due to needing a 99.9% completion and missing a single blade of grass. It's never obvious either which then means you'll spend hours checking everything all over again.
If you're a fan of Lawn Mowing Simulator's relaxing, stress-free gameplay then Dino Safari is one for you. The pack offers four new locations with twelve contracts that add to the already wealthy career mode. Whilst it doesn't add any new gameplay elements, it's an enjoyable journey through a tranquil prehistoric world.
Rating: 8/10
