Video Game Review - Lawn Mowing Simulator
Ellie reviews Lawn Mowing Simulator on Xbox Series X...
Ever wanted to have a go on a ride on a lawnmower? Well here's your chance!
Lawn Mowing Simulator is exactly what the name suggests - a game about cutting the grass - and lot's of it!
Created by developers Skyhook Games and published by Curve Digital, you'll mow various lawns as you attempt to build a grass cutting empire. So come with me as we go from being the newbie of mowing to the in-demand pro of the gardening world
The first thing that stuck with me is that the game is set within the countryside of Great Britain. My experience started straight away by jumping into career mode. Here you choose your company name, company logo, uniform colour, and customise your character. There isn't a lot of options to choose from, but this game is all about the mower - not it's the rider.
Next up you have to choose which mower you want to buy as your first. To start with you only get to choose between two unlocked mowers. They're both different in how they perform, but thankfully you're able to take both out on a test drive. Once you've picked your new machine, you're taken to the contract hub. Here is where you select your jobs and get a rundown of the jobs various restrictions. Oh yes, you'll soon need a variety of mowers to cater to everyone's needs. Anyway, once a contract has been accepted it's time to get straight into work.
Once at your job you get the opportunity to walk onto the lawn or area you are cutting to look for any objects that could damage your lawnmower. After this check has been completed you can then hop onto your mower and get stuck in. It's pretty in-depth as you'll have to drive the mower off its trailer, and even select its cutting length. There is also a recommended time in which to get the job done, but you don't seem to be penalised for going over this time.
As you progress through the career mode you can buy a new and better headquarters with more garage space for more mowers. There's also the option to hire staff so you can take on more jobs, which then sees you earning more money.
While on a job you can also be fined. These fines can occur due to collisions, damaging the ground, and even destroying flowers. My first two contracts saw me fined for all of the above, whilst my 4th contract saw me fined for my mowers condition. To avoid this you'll need to make sure that you fill-up with gas and repair blades after every job. You can also refuel and repair during the contract but I prefer to do it beforehand as it saves risking a fine. These fines may seem a bit overly harsh, but they're not worth a substantial amount of money, and you'll still come away from any job with fairly decent pay.
As well as career mode, Lawn Mowing Simulator also features a challenge mode and free mode. Challenge mode involves several challenges of various difficulties with each seeing limits on time or fuel. Freemode however is perfect if you just want it to relax with your mower and the sweet smell of a fresh lawn. In this mode, you're able to customise the rules for the ultimate relaxing experience.
At the moment Lawn Mowing Simulator has 12 fully licensed real-world lawn mowers such as SCAG and Toro. These can also be upgraded in various ways which allow for a great deal of customisation.
With the Xbox console family, Lawn Mowing Simulator is exclusive to the Xbox Series X|S. I'm playing on an Xbox Series X and the game is visually stunning. The Great British countryside is gorgeous and it doesn't disappoint. Each lawn is lush in appearance and full of life. There's plenty of hazards to look out for with an abundance of flowers and rockeries. There's a vast array of locations to from country gardens to equestrian fields, and even the grounds of a castle.
The overall game plays well and controls feel incredibly smooth. The Xbox Series X handles the game incredibly well and I haven't encountered any problems so far. Each menu is laid out well and everything is perfectly explained to you
Simulator games are always popular and there's a fair amount of them. While I've played a few and have enjoyed them, Lawn Mowing Simulator is one of my favourites. Riding along on a mower may seem tedious but I enjoy it. There's nothing like getting a lawn looking perfect!
Rating 8/10
