Rapid Video Game Review - Bulwark Evolution: Falconeer Chronicles

Image
Could you survive the harsh environment of the Great Ursee?  Bulwark is the second title in the trilogy of games that’ll eventually make up the Falconeer Chronicles . Created by solo developer, Tomas Sala , the trilogy focuses on the inhabitants of the vast water world, The Great Ursee. A few years ago the debut title, The Falconeer took us to the skies on the back of a great falcon as we battled across various scenarios that depicted a war between the various houses that call the Ursee their home. This second game changes perspectives as we leave the skies behind to become city builders on the Ursee’s rocky archipelagos. The third game - when it’s released - will then change the perspective again, but for now, Sala hasn’t revealed much as to how.  For a bit of perspective, I’ve delved into The Falconeer before for both Geek Culture Reviews and further back, Flickering Myth. While my original review for FM is lost to the annals of time, you can check out my Nintendo Switch r...

Video Game Review - The Last Worker

Image
Rob reviews The Last Worker on PlayStation 5… Simulation games are now quite a common thing. Gone are the days of the simple flight sim, and now we have the likes of Lawnmower Simulator, House Flipper, Power Wash Simulator, and many more. One profession that hasn’t made its way to video game format is the humble shelf picker. You know, those hidden in the jungle of the warehouse making sure that our boxes of online shopping get to us on time while their companies owner pretends to play Star Trek with William Shatner.  Anyway, while The Last Worker isn’t a true simulation title, it is based around the thankless work of a online order fulfilment worker. In fact your the last worker left in the thriving economy that’s Jüngle. Clearly a play on the retailers Amazon and IKEA, Jüngle is an online shopping portal that’s reach is world wide. Inside the mass warehouses it’s a dog eat dog world as employees fight for their jobs against each other, and a world that’s becoming more automated....

Video Game Review - Tin Hearts

Image
Rob reviews Tin Hearts on PlayStation 5… It’s been a busy few weeks for myself, and sadly as a result my coverage of video games has been a little behind schedule. For this I apologise, and going forward - for now - I’m probably going to have to be selective about what titles I review. Realising as a one-person-band I can’t do everything all at once.  Anyway, with that out of the way, what better way to mark my return to consistent video game reviews with Tin Hearts.  Coming from publisher Wired Productions and developers Rogue Sun Games (which features some of the team behind Fable) , Tin Hearts is a charming and heartwarming game about toy soldiers.  Set against the backdrop of Victorian England, Tin Hearts follows the narrative of inventor Albert J. Butterworth. Told via clues within the environment, notes left behind by the inventor, and a wealth of cut scenes, you’ll discover the life and times of Albert as you navigate your toy soldiers across various obstacles. It’...

Video Game Review - The Falconeer: Warrior Edition

Rob reviews - The Falconeer: Warrior Edition on Nintendo Switch... The Falconeer and I have somewhat of a history. Way back when I freelanced for a much larger gaming website (those who know me, know who) I was lucky enough to be able to preview and review the Xbox One/Xbox Series X|S version. This was way back in September 2020 and was an early build of the game. I found that while the game was enjoyable, there was something not quite right in its overall execution.  Thankfully since then, solo developer Tomas Sala has brought a wealth of change to the Great Ursee, and as such The Falconeer is both an incredibly accessible title - and one that's easy to fall in love with.  News of the arrival of the game onto the Nintendo Switch came as a real surprise. During the build-up to the launch of the Xbox Series X|S, The Falconeer was heavily branded as a "console exclusive". Of course, this set off both sets of console "fanboys" as they attempted to pi...
