Comic Book Review - Something Is Killing The Children #33

Trials and tribulations as I return to SIKTC… It’s been quite a while since I last sat down to review James Tynion IV’s groundbreaking Something Is Killing The Children. While I’ve not put my thoughts down in a review, I have been keeping up with Erica’s latest work in the (not so) sleepy backwater town of Tribulation. So, with SIKTC # 33 now in the wilds, I’ve decided to jump back into the thick of it.  Calling this latest issue “the thick of it” is quite an overstatement. Don’t get me wrong, while there are small gains made to pushing the story forward, it’s incredibly frustrating. Moving on from issue #32 the cast are still in the somewhat down-time area of their troubles. The Duplicitype still out there, and with the arrival of the newcomers you’d think there’d be a lot going on. Instead we get an issue that focuses on the inevitable battle between Erica and Cutter.  Over the course of the 30-something pages, there’s very little to get excited about. Where the series has h...

Rob reviews Something Is Killing The Children #22... James Tynion IV' s blockbuster; Something Is Killing The Children has entered its second story arc. With the events of Archer's Peak well in the past, Erica Slaughter has moved on to another town that has a monster problem. Yet in doing so she's caught the attention of the 'House of Cutter' who are sending their unique agent to apprehend her.  After the first series, and the House of Slaughter spin-off you'd think that James Tynion and Werther Dell'Edera would have shown us everything there is when it comes to gore. Yet, Something Is Killing The Children #22  manages to break this mould in a new - and horrific way. The opening pages introduce us to slaughter as Human and monster bodies lay in twisted positions across a house. What makes this more extreme, is that a couple have their eyes pinned open and there are splashes of blood everywhere.  Before you can fully grasp what did th...

Rob reviews Something Is Killing The Children #21... James Tynion IV and Werther Dell'Edera 's phenomenal tale of monsters, children, and secret hunting organisations is back for its next series. But rather than focus on the series stalwart; Erica Slaughter - Tynion switches focus to the new protagonist - Gabi.  Much like Erica's own introduction - 20 issues ago, Gabi is portrayed as a strong young woman who doesn't take any s**t. As the issue ends she's certainly been through her fair share already, but as we already know it's going to get a whole lot worse. While Tynion opens this issue with the damage already done, he does take us back to past events. And boy! If you thought Archers Peak was bad, just wait... So, with a new protagonist, you need a new antagonist. As such we're introduced to this "thing" in that typical brutal fashion that makes Something Is Killing The Children what it is. While Werther Dell'Edera ...
