Image
Rob reviews Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #108… Things slow down this week as we finally learn the origins behind Mistress Vile’s mysterious partner. As Vessel’s origin is revealed what ramifications will it bring to the wider MMPR mythos?  Kicking things off back in the not-so distant past, Mistress Vile and Alpha-1 are hunting for something on the planet Bizark. This soon turns out to be the resting place for Zordon’s body which was placed on Bizark after Rita stripped his consciousness and trapped the Eltarian within the time vortex. Needing a “vessel” for the Dark Spectre, Mistress Vile sees the body of her arch nemesis as the perfect host.  Flash forward and we then find ourselves in the present day as the battle for Earth continues. Across the next few panels we get some gorgeous work from the returning Marco Renna  that illustrates Vessel heading towards his target, while chaos rains all around. With the Command Centre in his sights, Vessel effortlessly dispatches w...

Comic Book Review - Power Rangers #19

Image
Rob reviews Power Rangers #19... Ever since I started covering Power Rangers just after ' Shattered Grid ', I've often wondered how Ryan Parrott could top his previous story arc. While there was a lot of emotion at play in the ' Eltarian War', this seemingly normal issue of Power Rangers hits like an emotional freight train - not only for the unprepared reader but for its cast too!  Power Rangers #18 saw the team split up in an attempt to cover both distress calls at once. Trini and Zack discovered a derelict spacecraft with its single infant survivor, while Jason and Yale met up with ' Power Rangers In Space' character   Andros on his own decimated planet. Power Rangers #19 continues these threads as we see Zack and Trini attempt to be parents to their rescued alien, and Andros recruits Jason and Yale in his quest for vengeance. With two plots running concurrently a lot is going on, however, it all comes together into a world-shattering finale ...

Comic Book Review - Mighty Morphin #6

Rob reviews Mighty Morphin #6... Ryan Parrott is on to something incredible with Mighty Morphin . I know I say it a lot (every review) but each issue just gets better and better. Still reeling from the revelation that Matt Cook is the new Green Ranger, the Rangers are still having to contend with Lord Zedd and the impenetrable dome that surrounds Angel Grove.  So, in typical Mighty Morphin fashion, #6 kicks off with another trip into Zordon's past. We see a great bit of character building as Zordon and Zartus talk about the elephant in the room - Zordon's promotion to Chief Guardian. Naturally, Zartus is a bit peeved that Zophram chose Zordon over himself, but promises that he is loyal to the new Chief Guardian - and even admits that Zordon might be the better fighter. Back in the present and it's been 23-days since Lord Zedd surrounded Angel Grove with the Dome. Matt is still trapped inside, and the Rangers are still trapped outside. Now, this is where Ryan P...

Comic Book Review - Mighty Morphin #5

Rob Lake reviews Mighty Morphin #5... The Unlimited Power Era has thrown yet another variable into it's an increasingly volatile mix. Issue #4 finally revealed who's inside the Green Ranger armour - Matt.  While Matt's inclusion in this new Ranger dynamic was guessed by some (myself included), he's still a welcomed edition. After all who else could it of been? And who's more deserving? In true Power Ranger fashion, Matt's first day consists of a one on one battle with Lord Zedd, as Ryan Parrott takes us back to that climactic battle against the Dark Rangers. It's full-on action as Matt battles Lord Zedd whilst he doubts his abilities to fight. Parrott gives us some great dialogue as Grace tries to reassure the young Ranger that he's up to the task. Having Grace as a mentor is going to open up yet more issues for Zordon. As the Human and the Eltarian have different agendas on how to make the world a safer place. If anything this ...

Comic Book Review: Mighty Morphin #4

Image
Rob Lake reviews Mighty Morphin #4... The Unlimited Power era continues to pull no punches as Mighty Morphin issue #4 changes everything. The majority of this issue continues the battle between the Rangers and the Chaos Putty. This all leads to an ending that answers the growing question...who is the Green Ranger?  Much like the last three issues, issue #4 opens up with a look to Zordon's past. This time around the young Eltarian is sparing with his mentor - The First Guardian. We get a nice bit of two-and-throw as Zordon and his superior trade barbs in response to Zordon's recent supervision trip. Whilst the inexperienced Zordon feels as if the session is leading to his demotion. The First Guardian has something else in mind.  These flashbacks to Zordon's past have been great so far. It's great to see the Rangers mentor as the inexperienced person he once was. If anything it also shows how much Zordon had changed as a character over the entire Power Rangers...

Comic Book preview: Mighty Morphin Issue #4... With the Unlimited Power era of the Power Rangers now in full swing. One mystery still remains...who is the Green Ranger? In issue #3 of Mighty Morphin we do get the reveal that Grace Sterling is pulling the strings, but who's inside the suit is still left ambiguous. Whilst I've got my suspicions on it being Matt, it could in reality be anyone connected to the Rangers.  Thankfully series writer Ryan Parrott has teased over on Twitter that the reveal could take place in the upcoming Mighty Morphin issue #4. The seasoned writer posted the below tweet, which of course garnered a flourish of attention. https://twitter.com/ThatRyanParrott/status/1351260574412206080?s=19 Whilst the writer doesn't give anything away, fans of Mighty Morphin are eagerly awaiting the launch of issue #4 on February 10th.  Rob Lake - For more comic book chat why not follow Geek Culture Reviews on Twitter @GeekCultureRev

Comic Book Review - Mighty Morphin #3

Image
Rob Lake reviews Mighty Morphin #3... The new Power Ranger universe continues to shock and amaze as Ryan Parrott and Marco Renna continue their journey through the Unlimited Power era.  This new era for the Power Rangers is truly something great. Two teams, two concurrent stories, with two vastly different styles. Whilst Mighty Morphin may seem to be the more "lighter" of the two, it's also now developing a slightly dark tone which Ryan Parrott delves into within this issue.  As with the previous two issues, we open up with another look into Zordon's past. This time around the young Guardian is undercover on an alien world. We get to see an insight into both the young Zordon's beliefs as well as the workings of the Eltan race. Zordon isn't alone in this mission and there is good interaction between the young Eltarian and his commanding officer with Zordon explaining that he isn't a fighter. Of course this changes for the older Zordon w...
