Comic Book Review - Eden

Image
Rob reviews ComiXology Original - Eden... Eden marks the comic book debut for television producer Matthew Arnold . Whilst it occasionally reads like the pilot to a highly ambitious television show, Eden keeps you on your toes throughout.  Much like a television drama, Eden throws you into its world from the get-go. The first chapter comes at quite a pace as a handful of prisoners are mysteriously released from their cryogenic slumber. As they escape the facility, the world is a far cry from the one they left behind. With the concrete jungle being replaced by a literal jungle, the group heads off in search of any signs of life.  No sooner are we introduced to this strange world, than  Arnold takes us back in time as he delves into the past of his protagonist; Senator Anna Croft. It's through this flashback that we learn of Croft's distrust of placing prisoners in cryogenic suspension, and of her ambitions as a Senator. Things take a darker turn as ...

Comic Book Review - Snow Angels #3

Image
Rob reviews Snow Angels #3... Don't shoot me! Yes, I may have missed out on reviewing Snow Angels #2 . No excuses really, I just plainly forgot! I really need to invest in a diary.  Anyway, apologies aside. I'm back with a look at Snow Angels #3 ... Jeff Lemire and Jock's Snow Angels has been a fantastic series so far. While we're only three issues in, it's been a great mystery that's delivering some fantastic tension within its bleak, snow covered world.  The story so far has followed a Father and his two Daughters who survive this harsh world in the embrace of a vast spanning trench. In the opening issue their settlement was attacked by a mysterious character called the Snowman. Issue 2, then picks up with the family struggling to outrun not just the Snowman, but also the other horrors that lurk in the trench. This time around Snow Angels #3 sees Lemire and Jock deal directly with the Snowman whilst opening up more of the mystery of ...

Comic Book Review - Snow Angels #1

Rob Lake reviews Snow Angels #1... The trench has three rules:  1. The Trench Provides. 2. You must never leave the Trench. 3. The Trench never ends.  Snow Angels is a 10-part series that's created by writer Jeff Lemire and artist Jock . Snow Angels also marks the first time these two bestselling creators have collaborated together.  To coincide with the launch of Snow Angels , Amazon Original Stories will also be publishing a short story also titled ' Snow Angels '. This short story which is also written by Jeff Lemire will act as an introduction to the world that will be expanded upon within the comic. This can also be read as a standalone teen-fiction novella that's full of Lemire's signature characterisation and vivid world-building.  It's a bleak opening for Jeff Lemire and Jock's new series. Set within a vast frozen wasteland, Snow Angels follows the trio of Pa, Mae Mae and Milliken, who also happens to be this issues nar...
