Comic Book Preview - Blade Runner: Tokyo Nexus #1

Image
Titan Comics have given us a preview of what to expect when Blade Runner: Tokyo Nexus comes to comic book stands in July….  Written by Kianna Shore and Mellow Brown, along side artist, Mariano Taibo, Tokyo Nexus  is set to further expand Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner  world.  Tokyo 2015: Two Kalanthia survivors fight for their lives in a world where Blade Runners are the least of their problems.  Following a failed mission Off-World, the only two survivors of a combat squad, ex-marine Mead and Replicant combat model Stix, have returned to Tokyo to search for the traitor who left them to die. Now operating as an unofficial private detective agency, Stix and Mead find themselves caught up in a deadly Patent War between the Yakuza, the Tyrell Corporation and Cheshire, a rival corporation developing their own bootleg Replicant technology as they search for a missing woman. Blade Runner: Tokyo Nexus #1 is set to launch on 31st July, 2024.

Comic Book Review - Blade Runner 2039 Volume #1: Luv

Aahna Ashina’s story enters its endgame as Blade Runner 2039 begins… It’s been quite a tough journey for Blade Runner Aahna “Ash” Ashina. Beginning way back in Blade Runner 2019 , Ash ended up helping Cleo Selwin and her clone replicant mother escape from Cleo’s father, Alexander Selwin. Now twenty years later and the adult Cleo is back on Earth on the search for her missing “Mother” whose abduction has been orchestrated by Replicant manufacturer Niander Wallace.  Elsewhere and Wallace has also been involved in creating a more obedient line of Replicant. The greatest achievement of this resurgence in Replicant manufacturing is Luv, Niander Wallace’s personal assistant - and first Replicant to hold the title of ‘Blade Runner’. With Ash spending the past few years living “off the grid”, Cleo not only has to track down the person who saved her life, she also has to avoid Luv who has orders of her own.  Blade Runner 2039: Luv collects issues #1-#4 of the (as of writing) current s...

Comic Book Review - Blade Runner 2019: Volume 1 Los Angeles

Image
Quite an experience to live in fear, isn’t it?  Courtesy of an impromptu bid on a Facebook comic auction group, I recently found myself in possession of the first volume to Titan Comics Blade Runner 2019 series. The series itself isn’t new to me as I’ve previously written reviews on Titan’s first Blade Runner outing; Blade Runner Origins . And while I have picked up an issue here and there to 2019 (and it’s subsequent sequels) I’ve never sat down to read the entire series. Naturally with this spontaneous purchase that’s all about to change.  Blade Runner 2019: Volume 1 Los Angeles collects the first chapter of the wider 2019 story arc. Co-written by Michael Green and Mike Johnson , with art by Andres Guinaldo , the narrative follows Blade Runner, Aahna Ashina. While it’s not specifically stuck to the narrative explored within Ridley Scott’s phenomenal masterpiece, there is a few points that bleed over.  Taking place within a dystopian 2019 Los Angeles, Blade Runner foc...

Comic Book Review - Blade Runner 2039 #1

Rob reviews Blade Runner 2039 #1... Writers  Mike Johnson, Mellow Brown,  and publisher Titan Comics once again head back to the world inspired by Ridley Scott 's groundbreaking sci-fi noir; Blade Runner .  Now in 2039, while the world may be slightly different, the hunt to decommission rogue Replicants continues. With the remnants of the Tyrell Corporation now folded into the much larger Wallace Corporation, it's not long before the sins of the past once again rise to the surface.  Viewpoint to this opening issue comes from two sides of the Blade Runner world. On one side we have the Replicant LUV. Developed by Wallace Corporation, she's essentially Replicant 2.0. Created without all the defects of the older Tyrell models, LUV's mission is to act as public relations between Wallace and the LAPD. As a Blade Runner, LUV is utterly ruthless in her job. She's able to put up a serious fight against the Replicants she's sent to retire, and she's certa...

Comic Book Review - Blade Runner Origins: Vol.1 - Products

Rob reviews Blade Runner Origins: Vol.1 - Products... With the latest instalment to Titan Comics Blade Runner Origins series now on comic book shelves, the publisher has been kind enough to send me the previous two volumes to get up to date. As such I'll be reviewing both Blade Runner: Origins Vol. 1 & Vol. 2, before wrapping the series up with Vol. 3.  Since its launch back in 1982, Ridley Scott 's phenomenal Blade Runner has set the tone for dystopian science fiction. Taking inspiration from Philip K. Dick 's novel " Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?", Scott utilised the talents of Harrison Ford , Rutger Hauer , Sean Young , and Edward James Olmos to tell a gritty detective noir, with a sci-fi twist.  As such Blade Runner became an instant classic. While the world debated over whether Harrison Ford 's Detective Deckard was a Replicant or not, the Blade Runner world expanded into tie-in media that aimed to flesh out the overall story an...
