Video Game Review - Fantasy Friends: Under The Sea
Ellie reviews Fantasy Friends: Under The Sea on Nintendo Switch...
Fantasy Friends: Under The Sea is the new instalment to the Fantasy Friends family from developer Xaloc Studios and published by JUST FOR GAMES.
Fantasy Friends: Under The Sea is a peaceful slow-paced game. When you start you take to this pretty underwater world where you meet the mermaid Aurea - your guide to this world. When you start you're taken to the plaza which is the main area where you'll spend a lot of your time. From here you can move the Sea creatures into their homes, decorate the area, and buy clothing, toys and brushes to clean our new friends.
The plaza is also the place where you'll get the eggs required for your new residents. To hatch the eggs you need to make sure that they are at the right temperature. It's quite back and forth to keep rubbing the eggs but they don't take too long to hatch. While rubbing the eggs you will also receive in-game currency. This is what's used to buy the games many cosmetic items. Once the egg has hatched the creatures house will appear on the plaza and from there you can go into their house and start to care for them.
These underwater friends need plenty of love and attention, which when given enough will see them grow. Once grown you can go to a different area of the map to play catch with a ball or Frisbee. These mini-games are perfect for smaller players and they aren't too difficult and consist of either throwing balls or waving dangling toys in front of them.
You're also in charge of what food they eat which also sees you playing a simple cooking mini-game. One includes getting the ingredients to make a cookie using a claw machine to pick up items needed.
There are 12 different cute sea creatures you can discover, which range from a Sea Horse to an Axolotl. Each friends home is different and ties into that animal. There's plenty of items to unlock too, which gives younger players something to work for as they care for their underwater friends.
Fantasy Friends: Under The Sea is a very basic game and is perfect for younger gamers. There's no pressure to do missions, it's just as simple as feed, play, groom, pet and dress your pet friends. As a 35-year-old, I enjoyed the simplicity of it especially if I wasn't feeling like playing anything too in-depth.
When it comes to presentation, Fantasy Friends is an extremely pretty game. It's filled with vibrant colours and plenty of simple, yet cute characters that are certainly attention-grabbing.
All in all, Fantasy Friends: Under The Sea is a pleasure to play. It's pretty on the eye and features a host of cute bubbly creatures to unlock and interact with. There's a lot here that will appeal to young gamers, yet those looking for a more in-depth experience are best looking elsewhere.
Rating 7/10
