What lurks in the darkness? Marvel kicks off its big summer crossover story event in true horror movie style as darkness envelops the entire world. As the Avengers assemble to take on this new vampiric threat, the creative team of Jed MacKay and Pepe Larraz sink their teeth into this epic crossover event. With Blood Hunt #1 introducing quite a credible threat to Earth’s Mightiest, could the Marvel Universe be forever shrouded in darkness?  When it comes to the overall story of this coming chapter, there isn’t anything I can say without spoiling everything that MacKay delivers. What I will say is it’s an incredibly powerful opening that had me gripped from its opening page. MacKay’s choice of Avenger is top notch too with the writer calling in those on the team who he’s extremely familiar with. Garth Ennis, Nick Fury, and Frank Castle. What could go wrong?  Garth Ennis is back at the helm of another one of Marvel ’s Max comics. This time the veteran writer heads back to the Vietnam War as Frank Castle and Nick Fury work behind enemy lines for ‘Uncle Sam’. Its brutal and strictly adult tone already sets it apart from the usual Marvel fanfare, but most importantly, is it a good read?   Opening up to a monologue by long-time Nick Fury adversary, Letrong Giap Get Fury sets its atmosphere well. As the aged Giap recounts his own past experiences of war and conflict we’re reminded of his history with both Fury and Castle. Exhibiting no animosity toward his long-time foes, Giap illustrates his analysis of the various wars that saw Fury and Castle joining together.  After this opening, we're flung straight into the boots of Frank Castle. A new era for the iconic detective… Mad Cave Studios along with writers Alex Segura and Michael Moreci , as well as artist Geraldo Borges herald a new era for the classic detective. Set in the twilight years of World War II, “The City” finds itself in 1947. With the threat of global conflict now simmering in the shadows, The City falls back into the Hell of its creation. As corruption eats away at its core, up-and-coming Detective Dick Tracy is called to investigate a murder that will bring him into conflict with the rot that plagues his city.  It’s hard to talk more about the overall story of this issue without going into some pretty major spoilers. What I will say is that Segura and Moreci have crafted something that blends the character's rich history with that of a modern detective noir. The thrilling countdown has begun as Steve MacManus returns with Blazer! Issue #4… It’s been a couple of years since I last delved into the world of Blazer! with my last review being the publication's debut issue back in 2021. Since that opening issue the tie-in to creator Steve MacManus 's novel ‘ The Sheerglam Conspiracy ’ has grown into its own entity courtesy of those fine folks over at The77 Publications.
