Comic Book Review - The77 #7

Image
Rob reviews The77 Issue 7... Benksy and his team of misfits are back with their seventh issue of thrill-powered delights. Packed within this issue of 64-pages is a wide range of stories to fit even the fussiest comic readers' appetites. From the hard-hitting sci-fi of ' Division'77 ' to the comedy of ' SGT Shouty Of The Moonforce', The77 continues to be a real driving force for British independent comics.  But enough of my butt kissing...let's see what's underneath the cover!  Disposal (Martin Fisher, Charlie Gillespie, Annie Parkhouse)  'Disposal'  introduces us to a seemingly ordinary bomb disposal team. Set within a future metropolis, our team are sent to disarm an unconventional bomb - complete with an eyeball!. It's here where Fisher introduces us to disposal expert Hammond who seems to have luck on his side. We soon learn that this luck could be something to do with Hammond being a mutant, and it's about to run out!  Whi...

Comic Book Review - Thistlebone Book Two: Poisoned Roots

Image
Rob reviews Thistlebone Book Two: Poisoned Roots... Thistlebone is one of those tales that shows just how diverse the storytelling of 2000 AD is. On the surface, Thistlebone comes across as a typical supernatural horror. Dig a little deeper and you start to venture into the cult territory, with plenty of local folklore and the legends that surround them.  Book one focused on journalist Seema Chaudry who was investigating the story behind Jasper Hillman and his Thistlebone Cult. In doing so Seema convinces cult survivor Avril Eason to return to the cult's former location in the woods of Harrowvale. What then followed was a slow build-up of horror and madness as Seema and Avril ventured deeper into the Thistlebone nightmare. Now, ' Poisoned Roots' sees Seema drawn back to Harrowvale as she attempts to finally uncover the truth behind the myth. Set one year after the events of the first book, Seema is still haunted by those events. She's seeing things that couldn't pos...

Comic Book Review - Mighty Morphin #19

Image
Rob reviews Mighty Morphin #19... Rocky, Matt, Zordon, the Promethea scientists, and Rocky's family have managed to avoid King Aradon's bombardment via the sanctuary provided by the Zords shield dome. Meanwhile, the rest of the team finds themselves undercover on the planet of the Lion Empire. So, just another ordinary day. Right?  This one is a slightly shorter review than my normal Power Rangers coverage. The reason is that there's A LOT to digest in this issue, and it's one that I feel is best read first hand.  Before I get into the bulk of this review,  Mat Groom 's interpretation of King Aradon is brilliant. Aside from a few mentions during Power Rangers Zeo, King Aradon is an entirely new character - although he's closely connected to Zeo 's King Mordo. Groom continues to build Aradon's character throughout this issue as we start to see his motivations in attacking earth. Since before the onset of the Eltarian War there have been sly ...
