Comic Book Review - The77 Reissue No.1

Image
Everything old, is new again... Back in 2020 and a new retro anthology leaped onto the British indie comic scene. From the musings of a few members of the 1977-2000AD Facebook group, The77 came into existence. Consisting of 68-pages The77 Issue #1 was a love letter to those comic books all of us read growing up. Taking the style of a simple anthology, the first issue featured a multitude of serialised strips across plenty of attractive genres. Now heading towards its 9th issue, the anthology had grown in both popularity and size. Spawning offshoots such as Blazer! , Pandora , and This Comic Is Haunted , what started as a simple fanzine has evolved into a full-fledged brand.  Regardless of where The77 Publications sees its future, its not forgot its past. While The77 Issue #1 is now long out of physical print, it's original contents have been remixed, reloaded, and more importantly - streamlined. So, with The77 Reissue No. 1 now in the wild, what a perfect time to get reacquai...

Comic Book Review - The77 #7

Rob reviews The77 Issue 7... Benksy and his team of misfits are back with their seventh issue of thrill-powered delights. Packed within this issue of 64-pages is a wide range of stories to fit even the fussiest comic readers' appetites. From the hard-hitting sci-fi of ' Division'77 ' to the comedy of ' SGT Shouty Of The Moonforce', The77 continues to be a real driving force for British independent comics.  But enough of my butt kissing...let's see what's underneath the cover!  Disposal (Martin Fisher, Charlie Gillespie, Annie Parkhouse)  'Disposal'  introduces us to a seemingly ordinary bomb disposal team. Set within a future metropolis, our team are sent to disarm an unconventional bomb - complete with an eyeball!. It's here where Fisher introduces us to disposal expert Hammond who seems to have luck on his side. We soon learn that this luck could be something to do with Hammond being a mutant, and it's about to run out!  Whi...

Interview - Dave Heeley & Andrw Sawyers

Dave Heeley & Andrw Sawyers chat all things The77 and their new strip - Silver Jubilee... The77 has gone from strength to strength since its launch back in 2020. The anthology is entirely funded via Kickstarter crowdfunding and every campaign has smashed its target by a clear mile. It's easy to see why as The77 has a great mix of stories, and a fantastic roster of talent that includes industry veterans, and up-and-coming talent.  Two 'veteran' contributors to the anthology are writer Dave Heeley and artist Andrw Sawyers . Both Heeley (who also happens to be one of the publications directors) and Sawyers have been with the anthology since its opening issue. Heeley has gained much success with writing the sci-fi tale Division'77 , while Sawyers has taken us through the psychedelic sci-fi dystopia that is  The Cell. With both Division'77 and The Cell ending their current arcs, the creative duo have teamed up to bring Silver Jubilee to The77...

Comic Book Review - The77 Issue #5

Rob reviews The77 Issue 5... It's Saturday (actually it's now Wednesday!)...I've just been for my first COVID-19 vaccination (Pfizer), my arms a bit sore, and The77 has arrived on my doorstep (with two copies of Starblazer, and another copy of The SheerGlam Conspiracy - this one signed by Steve MacManus ). So aside from the potential side effects from Mr Pfizer - today is a good day... The77 Issue 5 is the latest release from The77 Publications. As always funding for issue 5 took place over on Kickstarter with the Issue raising £9,516 courtesy of 344 backers. This time around I went for the ' Signed Sawyers Archival Print + Comic' backer reward. I'm a big fan of Andrew Sawyers so it was a natural choice (although Ben Macleod' s Trackless Depths variant was extremely tempting!).  With that said and done let's crack on with the review... V As Anat and the Resistance set their plan to capture the time travel device in motion, a more immediate...
