Video Game Review - Star Wars Outlaws

Image
Star Wars Outlaws is one of those games that attempts to move away from its source material. Instead of battling Jedi and Sith, Outlaws takes its narrative in a different direction, and it’s one that’s rarely explored in that galaxy far, far away…  Set between A New Hop e and The Empire Strikes Back , Outlaws dives into the galactic underworld as we take on the told of Kay Vess, a scoundrel who finds herself navigating the treacherous underworld of crime syndicates whilst staying one step ahead of an Empire that’s dealing with the aftermath of the destruction of the first Death Star, whilst clamping down on any sign of rebellion. Along with her alien pet/companion Nix, Kay embarks on a galaxy-wide adventure that’ll take her into the clutches of some nefarious characters. With the narrative being very character-driven, the cast plays a big part in bringing Kay’s story to life. As such each character we meet is very well developed and is perfectly suited to delivering the wider stor...

Hot Toys brings Echo and Fives to their Star Wars: The Clone Wars figure series

Image
Sideshow and Hot Toys have revealed the next two figures to come to their Star Wars: The Clone Wars sixth scale figure collection. Inspired by characters from The Clone Wars animated television series Arc Troopers Echo and Fives are set to head to the highly detailed action figure range.  Echo was a soldier in the Grand Army of the Republic, known for his strict adherence to orders and rules — hence, his nickname, which was sarcastically gifted by his clone brothers. Still, Echo proved to be among the bravest clones, integral in the defense of Rishi Station and Tipoca City, and eventually achieved the rank of ARC trooper. Through tragic circumstances, however, he would become something more than a normal clone. The highly-detailed Star Wars action figure is specially crafted based on the appearance of Echo in the Clone Trooper Phase II armor, featuring a newly developed head sculpt with great likeness, finely crafted helmet and armor with unique markings and weathering effects, tai...

Re:Play: Episode #5 - Star Wars Rebel Assault II: The Hidden Empire

Image
Terrible gameplay, poor CGI , and even worse acting, Rebel Assault II has it all… Welcome to episode #5 of Re:Play, a series where I look back at a video game or comic book that I have fond memories of to see if it holds up to my past experiences. So far we’ve dived into Alien Vs. Predator: War, Xenoblade Chrioncles, Star fox, and Rogue Trooper, with each being a mixed bag of nostalgic-filled fun.  This time I’m heading to that galaxy far, far away with Star Wars: Rebel Assault II: The Hidden Empire . I first experienced Rebel Assault II back in the days of the original PlayStation. My middle brother still lived at home and while he was at work, his PlayStation console and game library was mine to control. While we didn’t actually own Rebel Assault II, my now defunct local video rental store did. Thankfully during one weekend visit the game was in stock and for £1.99 it was mine for two nights! As I raced home on my imitation BMX I couldn’t wait to dive into the world of X-Wings, R...

Image
One year after Starlight and the Nihil stand victorious… A lot has changed in the Star Was universe since we last saw the Jedi of Starlight Beacon. Since the Nihil’s attack on the Republics crowning jewel, the terrorist network has taken over the Outer Rim. Not only have they set up an ominous Occlusion Zone that blocks any travel into the Rim, there’s also the Nameless to contend with too. And with the Namelss being the one thing to strip a Jedi of the Force, well things aren’t too good.  Kicking off the third phase of the High Republic, Cavan Scott uses this first issue to reconnect us with Keeve Trennis to then delve deeper into her psyche. Still reeling from the effects of her undercover mission and the failure to save Starlight Beacon, Keeve is a shadow of her former self. She’s haunted by the thoughts of her former masters death at the hands of the Nameless, and even her solitude in the Force forces her to relive Sskeer’s apparent death. The past soon comes back to the presen...
