The mob isn’t the only thing to fear in the city…  Mad Cave Studios reimagined Dick Tracy has hotly become my favourite comic book series. Across the last three issues, Alex Segura, Michael Moreci , and the rest of the creative team have crafted a dark, gritty story with a cast of solid characters who all have a penchant for violence. The beauty of the narrative here is that it never slows down. On one side we have the looming gang war as a new kingpin attempts to make his mark on the City. The other side is Dick Tracy’s investigation that’s rapidly entwined with the current power struggle that’s playing out in the city's underbelly.  Dick Tracy #4 opens to Itchy’s mysterious employer overlooking the waterfront development. Through an internal monologue, we see that this power has been built from nothing and the stranger has acquaintances in quite a few high places. Gang war looms as Dick Tracy faces a potential mole in the police force… Mad Cave Studio ’s reimagined Dick Tracy series has so far been a real hit. Alex Segura, Micheal Moreci , and the rest of the creative team have come together to create an  impeccable storytelling experience that’s wrapped up in a taught detective noir. Whether yYou’re a long-time fan, only watched the Warren Beattie movie, or you’re coming in blind, Dick Tracy has something for everyone. And if that isn’t a good thing, I don’t know what is. Last time out and we were introduced to a new player in the form of Pat Patton. With Patton. Segura and Moreci wasted no time in filling us in on the hard-boiled civilians reasons for being in “The City”, which all involves his need in finding out the cause of his brother disappearance. Tensions begin to rise as Dick Tracy’s investigation continues…  Mad Cave Studios along with co-writers Alex Segura , and Michael Moreci are onto something quite big with the reinvention of Dick Tracy. Through a single issue, the creative team have already laid the groundwork for a hard-hitting and mature narrative that isn’t going to take any prisoners. Throw in Geraldo Borges who brings this script to life with a visceral intensity and Dick Tracy is one comic that’s not to be missed.  And that was just the opening issue!  Dick Tracy #2 continues the same trend that starts in the opening issue. Throwing the hard-boiled detective straight into his next case, Segura and Moreci use this issue to further establish the movers and shakers of this world as a new war looms on the horizon. Set in the twilight years of World War II, “The City” finds itself in 1947. With the threat of global conflict now simmering in the shadows, The City falls back into the Hell of its creation. As corruption eats away at its core, up-and-coming Detective Dick Tracy is called to investigate a murder that will bring him into conflict with the rot that plagues his city.  It’s hard to talk more about the overall story of this issue without going into some pretty major spoilers. What I will say is that Segura and Moreci have crafted something that blends the character's rich history with that of a modern detective noir.
