Review: Doctor Who Season 15 - Episode 2: Lux

Image
A Psychedelic Dive Into Memory, Myth, and Media… In its long and storied history, Doctor Who has rarely shied away from experimentation, but Lux pushes the boundaries of the show’s format in a way that is both dazzling and deeply emotional. Directed by Amanda Brotchie and penned by Russell T Davies, this episode fuses classic animation, drama, and meta-narrative into a surreal episode of quintessential sci-fi. Lux begins with the Doctor ( Ncuti Gatwa ) and Belinda Chandra ( Varada Sethu ), arriving in 1952 Miami. Soon the pair are drawn by the strange energy readings that surround the locked-down Palazzo Cinema. Within moments, the setting turns sinister as the Doctor discovers that the deserted theatre holds a dark secret, fifteen people have vanished without explanation, and the projector seems to run all by itself. Before long, the Doctor and Belinda are pulled—literally—into the film reel, transformed into cartoon versions of themselves and thrust in to the lushly animated landsc...

Comic Book Review - Doctor Who: Empire Of The Wolf #1

Image
Rob reviews Doctor Who: Empire Of The Wolf #1... It's not that often that we get a Doctor Who comic that features Paul McGann 's Doctor. While we only saw him during the 1996 Doctor Who movie, this incarnation has been more fleshed out via various audio dramas and expanded works. Now, Titan Comics and Doctor Who stalwarts, Jody Houser and Roberta Ingranata  are bringing us Empire Of The Wolf. A crossover that's going to bring a lot of the Doctor's past and future together.  The plot of  Empire Of The Wolf builds upon a few years worth of Doctor Who storytelling. On one side we have Rose Tyler, still trapped in the alternative timeline due to the battle of Canary Warf, and is still shadowed by "Bad Wolf". On the other side, we have a pre-Time War 8th Doctor and the 11th Doctor, who's fresh from losing Amy and Rory. Completing the group is alternative/alternative Rose who just so happens to be the 'Bad Wolf Empress'. Whether this is due ...

Comic Book Review - Doctor Who: Missy #1

Image
Rob reviews Doctor Who: Missy #1... The Master is arguably The Doctors most devious and villainous enemy. Much like the menacing Daleks, The Master has been The Doctors equal across most (if not all) every regeneration. As the title suggests. This new Doctor Who comic from Titan , centres on Missy as she wages a war on both the Third and Twelfth Doctors. But, can the two Doctors stop Missy before it's too late?  In terms of characters, Missy is an enigma. On one hand, her adventures with Twelve portray her in an almost anti-hero light. But on the other, let's not forget that Missy is still the Master and underneath she's still just as cunning and devious as her past incarnations - if not more so.  Veteran 'Who' writer, Jody Houser pens this tale and it's off to a cracking start. As we've seen recently within the "normal" Doctor Who strips, Missy #1 points towards a team-up between Missy and her previous self (played here by...
