Video Game Review: Blasphemous - Nintendo Switch

Rob Lake reviews Blasphemous on Nintendo Switch... Blasphemous is the bastard lovechild of the Soulslike and Metroidvania genres. It's gorgeous pixel world and brutal combat hits you hard and fast and it never lets up. The story is also a thing of hellish beauty as you travel through a world filled with religious woe, guilt, death, and redemption. Developer,  The Game Kitchen has merged the Soulslike and Metroidvania genres in a way that sets the benchmark for future releases incredibly high.  But what makes Blasphemous that  game?  Much like Dark Souls , the story of Blasphemous is fed to you through drips and drabs via its world and characters. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night's Miriam Joins Blasphemous in Free Update

'Strife and Ruin' update brings new challenges and gameplay experiences to The Game Kitchen's brutal action-adventure... Team17 and The Game Kitchen have teamed up with 505 Games and ArtPlay for a crossover that sees the character of Miriam from  Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night  arrive in Cvstodia, seeking help from The Penitent One. The new mission is part of the free ‘Strife and Ruin’ update that launches on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on 18 th  February . Tasked with helping Miriam return to her world, players must complete a series of platforming challenges and collect shards to repair her portal home. Filled with traps that force the player to hone their precision platforming abilities, those who pass the test and help Miriam return to her world will have a special reward bestowed upon them.   ‘Strife and Ruin’ also introduces Boss Rush Mode, which becomes available after completing the main storyline.
