Comic Book Review - Cosmic Debris #1

Image
Rob reviews Cosmic Debris #1... Fresh from his time-travelling adventures with ChronoCat , Stu Perrins is back with another adventure.  Teaming once again with indie publisher Markosia , Perrins delves into a classic sci-fi tale of aliens, bounty hunters, and planet-destroying weapons. While it may seem to lean into plenty of sci-fi cliché  Perrins  delivers an opening issue that doesn't hide from that fact. Instead, what we get is something akin to a warm hug from a loved one on a cold night. It's certainly a story that feels familiar. But knowing Perrins , he probably has a few tricks up his sleeve.  Cosmic Debris kicks off with a loner wandering through a dusty desert. What makes this more striking is that partially submerged in the desert sands is the broken body of Lady Liberty. When then follow this cloaked stranger as they approach a camp that's inhabited by a drunk and angry-looking fellow. After belittling the Stranger for ignoring his plea for ...

Comic Book Review - Proteus Vex: Another Dawn

Image
Rob reviews Proteus Vex: Another Dawn... As Proteus Vex: Desire Paths heads to its conclusion within the weekly Prog, it's time to head back to where it all began with this collection of the first two-story arcs.  Created by Mike Carroll and Henry Flint , Proteus Vex tells a tale in the wake of an intergalactic war between the Alliance Ascendant and the Obdurate Empire. After 14 centuries the war reached its conclusion as the Alliance teleported a dying star into the Obdurate System. As a result of mass genocide, the Alliance stands victorious, and the Obdurate on the brink of extinction. This event also forms the backbone of the whole Proteus Vex narrative and its effect is still shaping the galaxy within the recent  'Desire Paths' story.   Our main viewpoint throughout this saga is Proteus Vex, agent of the Imperium Ascendant, and around the force of good. But like every good protagonist - Vex has secrets of his own, and it's one that soon p...

Advanced Comic Book Review - Bear Skin

Image
Rob reviews Bear Skin... Bear Skin is a graphic novel that took me by surprise. What starts like a typical crime story, soon evolves into something that's more akin to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre ,  The Thing and the video game,  Dead Space.  Currently seeking crowdfunding via Kickstarter, Bear Skin is heading into its final 11-days seeing its modest £3,731 target being smashed by nearly £4000! (Figures correct at time of writing) Thankfully I've been given an advanced look at the finished product via pdf, and it's certainly a unique graphic novel...  Set within Grantsville, West Virginia, Bear Skin follows a delusional guy as he makes his way into a seemingly normal diner. What follows is anything but normal as he changes into an adult-sized bear suit, to then slaughter the diner's patrons - the only survivor being a child. While this opening sets Bear Skin up to be a typical crime drama, it soon turns into something far more.  Much like a t...

So while Paul Atreides meets his destiny in battle, Sgt. Vitt must use his family’s gift of storytelling as a Jongleur to transport his men from their tomb to their homeworld of Caladan. Can Vitt mentally transport them back to the lushness and vast oceans of Caladan and give them the gift of hope in the darkness?' Dune: A Whisper of Caladan Seas is   a special one-shot that will expand further the rich mythology of Frank Herbert’s   Dune  adapted and scripted by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson with art from Jakub Rebelka (Origins) . “When we were writing  A Whisper of Caladan Seas , we had no idea that our  Dune -series novels and short stories would eventually add up to millions of words,” said Brian Herbert . “Now we’re still adding on to that total, and continue to en...
