Razer Viper Ultimate Cyberpunk 2077 Edition Review

Rob Lake reviews Razer Viper Ultimate Cyberpunk 2077 Edition Gaming Mouse...

The Razer Viper Ultimate truly is a fantastic mouse. The standard matte black Razer Viper Ultimate is the go-to mouse for many competitive gamers. It's a high end, has a vast array of configurations, durable and incredibly lightweight. The Viper Ultimate Cyberpunk 2077 Edition has all these features plus a vibrant bold Cyberpunk 2077 style to it that completes the look.

As most gamers know, Razer leads the pack when it comes to high-end peripherals. They have a vast array of keyboards, mice, microphones to choose from that all offer their strengths and weakness when it comes to gaming experiences. However, in the short time of owning the Viper Ultimate, it has replaced my ageing Mad Catz M.M.O. 7 in every way possible.

The Viper Ultimate Cyberpunk 2077 Edition comes in at a high-end price of £159.99 on the Razer website. Whilst this is £10.00 more than the standard Viper Ultimate with charging dock (which comes in at £149.99), both mice offer the same performance and features. It's only the colour of both the mouse and the dock that are different in the two versions.

What you'll first notice when using the mouse is that it's incredibly good looking. The bright yellow Cyberpunk 2077 theme works well in contrast to the customisable Razer logo. I found that having the logo glow as pale blue was a real eye-catcher and compliments the yellow incredibly well. The ambidextrous design of the mouse fits the sci-fi theme too and gives it a very sleek look. The sharp black lines of the Cyberpunk design also gives the Viper Ultimate an almost modular feel with its panel motifs.

The Viper Ultimate is also incredibly lightweight, and clocks in at a paltry 74 grams. It's a great bit of engineering considering that it's lightweight doesn't impact the mice's usability.

As mentioned earlier, the mouse has an ambidextrous design. This means that there are buttons on either side of the palm rest. In addition to the Viper Ultimate doesn't curve in a way that others would do. However, much like everything else, this design works to the Viper Ultimate advantage. If like myself you play a lot of MOBA or RTS titles then these extra buttons come into play a lot. During Starcraft 2 sessions I was able to select and control my builders and heavy units at the literal flick of my thumb. Naturally, the Viper Ultimate also comes with a left and right-click, as well as a central mouse wheel. The centre wheel is fairly loose and can be easily manipulated. There is a small amount of resistance, but scrolling is an effortless affair. Underneath the mouse is where you'll find the wireless dongle's housing, as well as the power switch and a button to change the DPI settings (more on DPI down below).

The Viper Ultimate Cyberpunk 2077 Edition comes bundled with its dock, while the standard Viper Ultimate doesn't. The dock allows you to charge the mouse just by clipping it to the top of the dock. Two magnetic prongs fit snuggly into the mouse itself. Charging percentage is managed via the onboard Razer logo and the chroma light around the dock, which flashes various colours to denote power levels and charging status. You can also connect the mouse wirelessly to the dock too just by plugging in the dongle to the dock. This acts as both a time saver when it comes to charging and also boosts the Viper Ultimate's wireless range.

When it comes to performance this mouse is a real top performer. While the whole design of the Viper Ultimate compliments those of us who game, it can also be adapted for everyday use with ease. Also, all 8 buttons on the mouse can be configured. When combined with Razer's Synapse 3 software, you can also set up various macros and plenty of additional functions.

Latency is also a factor when it comes to gaming and the Viper Ultimate has some impressive technology to keep this to a minimum. The Razer Hyperspeed Wireless technology means that your gaming at ultra-speed. The Razer website also claims that the technology is 25% faster than other wireless technology on the market. It's a big claim that's backed up by the Viper Ultimates quick performance.

Another fancy piece of tech that's featured is the Razer Focus+ Optical Sensor. This sensor has an impressive 20,000 DPI and boasts a 99.6% resolution accuracy. Naturally if your an FPS player then this is of particular use. Especially when it comes to titles such as Apex Legends and Call of Duty: Warzone, the Focus+ allows you some incredibly quick and focused movements to hit those shots with ease.

This also works well when combined with the Razer Optical Mouse Switch. This means that the mouse has a response time of 0.02 milliseconds. This is all made possible by clicks being registered via infrared, rather than a physical button.

The underside of the Viper Ultimate also features 100% PTFE mouse feet. What this means is that the mouse will glide along surfaces with the same ease as using a non-stick frying pan...pretty cool eh?

When it comes to battery life, Razer boasts that the Viper Ultimate can hold up to 70 hours. In reality, this is true, but naturally, the battery charge will drain slower when not being used for high-performance actions.

In conclusion, the Razer Viper Ultimate Cyberpunk 2077 Edition is now my favourite mouse of all time. It's a true testament to Razer and their passion for producing high-end, high-spec products. It uses Synapse 3 to give you full control over how you use the buttons, a great battery life, lightweight and provides as close to zero latency experience given the current technology. While the high price may be a deciding factor, I feel that it's completely worth it especially for all the technology that Razer has incorporated into giving you the best gaming experience possible.
